I wrote this as a reply to another story on Patrick but it's probably good to post it separately too.

Others may want to add to this. My knowledge is somewhat limited as the local papers here don't think that state government is worth reporting on, unless it's some up-and-coming young Democrat politician from San Antonio (i.e., they ran a story on Henry Cisneros virtually every day, until he melted down).

Patrick should be a lesson for all the GOP. Don't fear the Hispanic vote. Stand forthrightly against amnesty. Hispanic Americans don't want the illegal hordes, either.

Thanks for the post Bob, it was very informative. I made a couple of small donations to the Patrick campaign earlier this year in both the primary and its runoff. I made those donations not knowing that much about Patrick (I’m residing in the freak state of Maryland) other than the fact that RINOs apparently hated him. My support for Patrick was mainly motivated by my disgust at David Dewhurst. It’s good to see what a great patriot Patrick is.

By the way, it is SO sweet to see Dewhurst suffer back to back humiliations at the hands of conservatives — — first by Ted Cruz and this year by Dan Patrick. Texas can look for some good news in the future with the new conservatives elected this year.

If I am not mistaken, the Lt. Gov. of Texas has a lot of power...maybe more so than the Governor. Is that true?

I've also heard that the Texas Speaker of the House - Joe Straus is a major RINO. He was elected to office by the Democrats and a couple of gutless Republicans.

What are the chances of Straus getting the boot?

I’ve known Dan for better than 30 years, and no shrinking violet he.. Although he isn’t what I would call a personal friend, that talks daily, but a friend enough that I sponsored his radio show for several years, and entertained him in my home..

I supported his primary election, enthusiastically, against the backroom advise of some high level GOP friends, which pleased the hell out of me.. LOL

Next year, our next legislative session, will be a lot of fun to watch, and not just because of Patrick, but because Governor-elect Abbott is also far more conservative than Perry ever was. Can’t wait.

...

Sounds like the Bush wing of the GOP in TX is losing control, though George P. has a new job where he can rack up an impressive list of cronies.

Dan likes to hear himself talk a good game. This article is very pro-dan, but can’t list accomplishments beyond knowing when there is a good opportunity for Dan to run for office.

Need more than words, especially after Dans famous interview with Ted Cruz where Dan lost it, yelled at Ted so bad that Deuhearst used that interview as a campaign ad.

Dan has promised a lot, it is time to deliver or get classified like Cornyn. A rino who knows how to talk conservative and govern otherwise.

I am not a fan of Dan.

And regarding Strauss, he got re-elected. But most of his rino conspirators did not. I think the message was sent.

Patrick promised to end two practices which made Texas legislation much more liberal, despite an almost 2/3rds represention by Republicans:

2/3rds rule, which allows 11 of 31 Senators to block a bill from coming to the floor for a vote. There are 11 Dem Senators this session. If they stood together, they could block any bill. Wendy Davis’ pro-abortion filibuster happened during a special session wher the bill had to be considered because the Gov sets the topic for special sessions. A pro-life bill couldn’t come to the floor in the regular session because of the 2/3rds rule: Dems always blocked it.

Dem Chairs. Both Dewhurst and Straus (on the House side) have made a practice of having about half of committee chairs be Democrats. The Lt. Gov and Speaker pick the Chairs. Patrick has said he would end that practice.

Patrick has a reputation for putting Patrick first. Who cares. If he does just those two things: kills the 2/3rds rule and no Dem Chairs, then he earned my vote.

You stupid gun owners need to shut up...

“Don’t you know who I am!”

Funny how the first major campaign promise (lie) to give ALL issues and bills there fair day in the process was a conservative issue...

Oh well... Let the love-fest begin...

And before anyone gets their ruffles in a feather...

I vote for one, and supported both of the two guys that would not have done this...

Patterson and Staples...
