Another misunderstanding of the 1st Amendment. Sure he has the right to say whatever he wants but we are not required to give his rant any weight beyond that of a phart in the wind.

Just goes to show that, when stupid people breed, they end up in places you’d never expect and, frankly, should anticipate moving forward.

I love it when a lib speaks/writes, makes their case and exposes what they really are...

The term "heroes" is a bit overused. I'm a Destroyerman vet. USS Henry B Wilson (DDG-7) 1978-84 B Division. I consider military heroes... very rare and mostly KIA's. -atc23

I agree with you.

Might not be very many death threats.

Maybe he figures if he cries hard and loud enough, people will think he's the victim.

Sorta like the feminists or lesbians who deface their own property.

There is stupid and then there is STUPID. The guy just killed all future business by joining in on the “soldiers aren’t heroes” rant that the liberals just started recently...

I'm a vet and don't consider myself a hero at all. A hero in my book is someone who does something extraordinary to overcome impossible odds or sacrifices their own welfare for that of their fellow human beings. I think the word hero is thrown about too easily in today's age. You don't automatically become a hero just because you don a uniform.

Well said.

The term "heroes" is a bit overused.

Yes, it is, but let's see what Patton had to say about heroes (from yesterday's post):

All of the real heroes are not storybook combat fighters, either. Every single man in this Army plays a vital role. Don't ever let up. Don't ever think that your job is unimportant. Every man has a job to do and he must do it. Every man is a vital link in the great chain.

What if every truck driver suddenly decided that he didn't like the whine of those shells overhead, turned yellow, and jumped headlong into a ditch? The cowardly bastard could say, ‘Hell, they won't miss me, just one man in thousands.’ But what if every man thought that way? Where in the hell would we be now? What would our country, our loved ones, our homes, even the world, be like? No, damnit, Americans don't think like that.

Every man does his job. Every man serves the whole. Every department, every unit, is important in the vast scheme of this war. The ordnance men are needed to supply the guns and machinery of war to keep us rolling. The Quartermaster is needed to bring up food and clothes because where we are going there isn't a hell of a lot to steal. Every last man on K.P. has a job to do, even the one who heats our water to keep us from getting the ‘G.I. S****.’

Perhaps not a hero in the grenade-jumping sense of the word but they did give up their freedom and can be called upon at any moment to make the ultimate sacrifice. They deserve at minimum a TON of respect.

This idiot has one valid point: our police, EMTs, firemen, etc. are also heroes. They also deserve respect.

But is he aware how many of these people might themselves be veterans? Or might have been inspired by veterans & active service people to pursue their respective line of work?

Apparently because some heroes are civilians — and some civilians are heroes — this means that non-civilians aren’t heroes. Can anyone explain to me the logic?

A lot of gun store owners and employees actually like to hear themselves talk. A lot of them are idiots. There’s nothing worse than an idiot who likes to hear himself talk.

Two posters here on FR said pretty mush the same thing.
Carl from Marietta said specifically those same words, said we were mercenaries.

A flaming liberal gun store owner? Not many of those around. Looks like there will be even one less by this time next year.

There might be some good close out sales soon.

This fellow seems to be a devoted follower of Lew Rockwell and a number of the people who appear on his site. Libtards hate all gubbmints only they hate the US gubbmint most. They consider members of the armed forces to be the hirelings and mercenaries of the global financial elite and its political class spear carriers.
These people are about as rational as the Code Pink true believers and indeed share some common beliefs and attitudes.

Dear Mr Schuette,
Your purported apology is no better. Your condescension still comes through, despite your gritted teeth. Please take note: I am not a victim. I volunteered. I raised my right hand, and I did my duty for love of country, to honor my family, and to protect the things in which I believe.

I do not claim to be a hero, but I’ve been fortunate enough to serve with a few, and to know a few more. I know what a hero is, and I don’t need you, or anyone else to give me honor amongst them. But for someone who never served to call us who made that choice ‘victims’ is to claim you know more, or know better, or are somehow more enlightened or smarter than us, the poor misguided silly fools. You clearly have not been humbled, as you stated you had.

It’s ok to think you are right, as you clearly did when you posted your screed. So stand up, be a man, and defend your words. Defend your thoughts. Do what we did - put your hide on the line for what you believe. Don’t hide behind false humility while speaking faux apologies coated in condescension. We veterans, most of us anyway, don’t backtrack from what we believe. When the pay was poor, and the rent was coming due, when our finances were in jeopardy ... most of us muddled through, made sacrifices, and we held the line.

I believed you the first time, and I think you spoke from the heart. Now that your livelihood is at risk, you step back. You offer half apologies. You claim humility with words that tell another truth. So let me offer you a small slice of the truth I’ve learned in this life...

Backing away from what you believe in the face of criticism or financial risk is cowardice, and that my friend is also not the mark of a hero.
BnG

Post script: as for what I believe - even as an Annapolis man I believe MacArthur was right..........
Let civilian voices argue the merits or demerits of our processes of government. ... the soldier above all others prays for peace. ... the American man at arms {is} one of the world’s noblest figures ... These great national problems are not for your professional participation or military solution. Your guidepost stands out like a ten-fold beacon in the night: Duty, Honor, Country.
