Cape Cod, South Shore Residents Concerned About Traveling Bus Owned by Sex Offender
Boston Magazine ^ | November 18, 2014 | Steve Annear

A minibus that belongs to a registered sex offender, and is painted with pastel colors and the words “God Bus” on the back, has residents in parts of Cape Cod and the South Shore on edge, with some going as far as trying to track the vehicle owner’s every move.

The bus, owned by John J. Stangl, a registered level three sex offender who is listed as “homeless” in Hyannis, has been spotted in Kingston, Plymouth, and Yarmouth during the course of the week. The white vehicle is plastered with bumper stickers, and patterned curtains cover the windows. The words “God Bus” can be seen in large letters on the bus’ rear door exit.

But it wasn’t until officers in Yarmouth posted an image of the bus on November 6, as a warning for people to “be vigilant” in the event that a crime is committed, that interest in Stangl’s whereabouts escalated in the surrounding communities. The picture and accompanying information about Stangl and his presence in Yarmouth was shared more than 500 times.

It's like this. If the people who believe in Kinsey's work did not ride the "short bus" this man would still be in jail today and not out and about in his "traveling bus".

The Cape Cod area is very, very liberal, and extreme tolerance of alternative lifestyles is the norm unless one is thought to be a conservative.

A “Run Elizabeth Run” sticker on his vehicle will solve any problems. After all, who are we to judge, and are we all not ultimately responsible for the world’s injustices?

“with some going as far as trying to track the vehicle owner’s every move.”

There is a device called “SPOT” that you can put on stuff to track it using GPS from your computer. $70 or so and $10/month. It would need to be secured and hidden somewhere with a view to the sky.

No - but I got a similar type of device from them for myself when I am out in the boonies. I can send a “I’m okay” txt message to my wife through the GPS when no cell coverage. Also can press a button for 911 and they’ll send rescue (boat, chopper, etc,) almost anywhere in the world!

you don’t know what you’re talking about. The South Shore of Massachusetts is the most conservative/republican part of the state. No tolerance here for sex offenders. And contrary to popular belief, many of us are armed and carry. Massachusetts has some pain in the ass gun laws, but it’s not hard to get your concealed carry license.

Don’t mind being told I’m wrong if the reality is better. I thought South Shore meant the south shore of the Cape Cod fish hook.

But if you’re like the Eastern Shore of Maryland, on the Chesapeake & much more conservative than greater Baltimore, then you’re largely unable to prevent the election of liberals like Kennedy, Dukakis, & Warren.

I mean, Massachusetts means Martha’s Vineyard, greater Boston, Nantucket, Chappaquiddick, and the people who live & vote there. Still a blue state, IMO.

Oh yeah. Still blue overall. At least we elected a Republican governor although he’s not a Conservative.

Except for the Provincetown area, it is not that liberal. Plenty of retirees.

this man would still be in jail today and not out and about in his "traveling bus".

While this guy definitly has mental issues, his repeated crimes of "lewd and lascivious behavior" do not warrant a judgment of life in prison as you seem to suggest.

What's the alternative? I don't know.........
