RG3's fall from grace as stunning as his meteoric rise to stardom
Yahoo ^ | 11.19.2014

Less than two years ago some believed Robert Griffin III could change the way the United States was governed.

Not just change the football fortunes of the Washington Redskins, not just change the bottom line for Nike or Subway or anyone else who'd jumped in with a pleasant, charismatic and dynamic quarterback, not just change how his position is played, in his case with 4.3 speed and an accurate arm.

Yeah it’s sad. I like the guy, but he’s a victim of the NFL marketing execs. They are pushing a style that cannot last in the NFL....unless they want really bad passers who make the quarterback position a shorter career than the typical running back. I am from Philly and have seen enough of this crap going all the way back to Randall Cunningham in the 80s and early 90s. Sure it was fun at times, but you knew we’d never win the whole thing. Year after year we were stuck with these guys while year after year the true pocket QBs won it all.

Refer to post # 20. A reciever gets hit 5-10 times a game. A “mobile” quarterback can get hit up to 20 times a game.

The sports media in this country is an embarrassing disgrace. RG3 is a decent not a super quarterback playing for a mediocre team. He isn't the greatest at reading defenses, the first and foremost survival skill in the NFL, and he has found that the pro game is a different world from the college game (monster defensive backs just as fast as he is.)

Beyond that, WTF-- leave the guy alone, let him play and work out his own destiny such as it will be.

This is what happens when you lose.

Winning would solve all of these issues.

It’s the way the NFL works.

RG3 strikes me as a decent kid. I hope he eventually has a chance somewhere to be a good quarterback.

“Remember the year it was a tough call between Peyton Manning or Ryan Leaf?”

Indeed! And it sure looks like a Luck/RG3 repeat, though I think RG3 is a decent kid and might have a chance to be a good quarterback somewhere someday, unlike Leaf who was just a jerk.

Well RG3 seems like a good kid, is smart and has great gifts as an athlete. However to be a great NFL QB you have to put a crazy amount of time in the film room doing preparation. THis is what makes a QB without great Physical skill, like my favorite (and perhaps GOAT) Tom Brady such a great QB.

Steve Young says that he hears that RG3 doesn’t put in the required time.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/11/18/steve-young-coaches-have-told-me-rg3-doesnt-put-in-the-time/

An excellent article showing examples where RG3 missed wide open WR’s due to missing the pre snap read:

Brady Rogers Manning make the correct read 99 times out of a hundred.

Not many people have 4.3 speed.

I cannot believe that vile stuff that is said about from people who have never played pro sports.

Yep. I’ve worked in sports for 35 years. The game isn’t enough. There’s an entire culture based on gossip.

I’m not stunned. I predicted it. His body is too small for his style of play, his coach (Shanahan) said repeatedly they were going to have him run a lot (his style), thus guaranteeing he was going to get hurt. Also meaning they would be spending practice time on running rather than improving his QB fundamentals. Add a meddling owner that’s enamored of high profile talent and not into fundamentals like the offensive line. Anybody that pays attention saw this train wreck coming the minute he got drafted by the Skins.

A ‘fast’ QB will only be fast for so long, then what?

RG3 could very well have been an excellent pick, just not by that team. Nobody has succeeded there in a long time, and nobody is going to in the foreseeable future.

Mobile QBs have plenty of success in the league, the defending champ is mobile, Big Ben, and of course the one that made the idea popular Elway. But they can’t be ONLY mobile, a QB that lacks pocket fundamentals will always fail, a QB that has pocket fundamentals AND runs that’s the goal.

They ruined him in that playoff game that he never should’ve been in due to his physical condition. That stuff lingers for a real long time and he’s got to use his arm instead of his legs. If he can actually recover from or is recovered from that injury, and moves on to a better team, he’ll still be a force in the NFL.

Sounds like first thing he needs is an attitude adjustment.

That’s why the smart teams stress fundamental passing skills no matter what kind of foot speed the QB has. It’s great having a QB that can run away from trouble, but they gotta make those passes.

One radio commentator was actually worried RG3 would have a good game on Sunday.

Against the 49ers defense?? ROFLMAO. Not too likely.
