Thanks, Chode, for another season of F1 threads!

One thought for the end...how is it ‘racing’ when they’re lapping a good 7 secs slower mid-race than during qualifying? I appreciate the fuel load and all that, but still? ‘Tire-management’ isn’t racing, IMHO. Been bothering me for a while... (The regs suck!)

Oh, congrats to Hamilton, though I can’t stand his hip-hop persona.

no sh!t... they are robo-jockeys!!!

The Camel-Riding Robot Jockeys of Arabia

Camel racing is a really popular sport throughout the Arab world, and owning a heard of specially-bred fast camels is apparently considered a symbol of wealth and power. But it’s not the animals we should be talking about, it’s their weird-looking robot jockeys.

Obviously, robot jockeys aren’t exactly an integral part of the old camel racing tradition. In the old days, children and light young men were used to whip the camels to victory, but in recent years things had  really gotten out of hand, and crackdowns on the black market revealed around 40,000 kids from South Asia had been kidnapped or sold by their families to become, among other things, camel jockeys. Welfare organizations started reuniting the children with their families, offering them shelter and food until they could return home, but a solution to camel jockey trafficking had to be found urgently. The United Arab Emirates banned children under the age of 16 from competing in camel races, and a Swiss company called K-team realized the business opportunity and began creating light robot jockeys known as “Kamal”, in 2003.

The jockeys are remote controlled by operators driving in cars along the racing tracks, and they whip the camels at the touch of a button. Sounds a lot better than using impoverished children, as I said, camel racing is a very big deal in countries around the Gulf, and some people would resort to anything in order to win. This year, Dubai police uncovered a gang of dealers who were selling electric stun-gun kits for robots, designed to make the camels run even faster. They were fitted inside the robots and delivered electric shocks by remote control in order to get an edge over the competition.

The most expensive racing camel, a breeding female, was bought in Abu Dhabi, for $2.5 million, even more than the world’s most expensive sheep.

LOL @camels. Disgusting people. Some day they’ll run out of oil and their medieval culture will be ignored by the rest of the world for all eternity...right after we sell them water @ $200/bbl until all the fake wealth is gone again.

That's cool.

We managed to shift T-Day over to the oldest Daughter from now on. Last year was the 1st one. She is still learning to cook so We will be splitting the load for the next few years until She gets up to speed. She refused to pull the “gut bag” outta last years bird- GMa did it. Her Hubby has gut bag duty now.

I've got 4 pies (Pumpkin/Pecan and Chocolate Pudding Graham cracker crust x 2), Ham, squash, sweet taters and Cornbread Dressing to make on Wed.
