If her hair was done in the morning for an event later on, all her parents had to do was send a letter excusing her from class.

Still, the teacher lost it and is gonna have to pay. At the risk of sounding racist, I think the ethnicity of the family and the lawyer indicates a suit for multi millions against the district. I'd expect an out of court settlement of at least $1.5MM.

Anyway, it is critically important for this girl to learn how to swim. She has nowhere else to go because there are no other swimming pools or oceans in or near California.

If a 14-year old girl declines to get in the pool during gym class, chances are pretty high that she’s not going to give the real reason in front of the whole class why she can’t get in that pool.
