I am using WIN 8.1 OS and yesterday the latest version of Firefox was updated on to my computer.
I can't access the browser as when I open it, the page is blank and I get the "page is not responding."
According to my computer, it is telling me that this latest browser is NOT compatible with OS 8.1.
I am unable to go back to an earlier version of Firefox.
Any advice would be most appreciated!
I have 8.1 and switched from Firefox to Waterfox early this year. It has been great. It looks and feels identical but works so much better.
I also have 8.1 and have no problems at all with it.
However, I had to uninstall Adobe Flash (Crash) Player after a couple of weeks because of constant problems with it locking up and crashing. Too bad that I can’t seem to find a suitable alternative for that.
While you smart PC people are here; I thought there was a free version of Malwarebytes, but all I found was what turned out to be a ‘free trial’ version.
Now they’re saying my ‘free trial’ is up and I must buy Malwarebytes to continue.
No matter how many ‘free versions’ I download, it always comes up,’your free trial is up’ and it no longer works.
Thanks in advance
Might want to try to totally remove it and start fresh. I have been using Chrome for a while and have had far fewer problems than when i was using FF.
I have the free malware bytes program and use it a few times each day. Never tells me I have to buy the full version.
I tried that, too. Did not seem to help but all of a sudden FF is working but the flash player keeps crashing. I re-installed and I am beginning to think this latest FF update has many glitches in it.
Use Internet Explorer. Microsoft products are designed to work together. Why would you want to want to use Fire Fox products when their developers are so anti-conservative?
I held on to FF for a long time because of the add-ins to stop ads, etc. Chrome has started using many of the same apps and seems to do so flawlessly - might consider giving it a test drive.
Where did you download it from, please?
When FF updates, it tells you and then asks to restart the browser.
For a while, I was recommending Palemoon 32-bit because it would allow the Firefox extensions/add-ons to work.
However, when it went from ver 24 to 25, I got messages that several extensions were not compatible.
Dang!!!! Firefox’s rapid release insanity was bad enough. Now even Palemoon has hit the wall.
The extensions were more important, as they are usable tools, than the latest greatest browser upgrade. Thus, I am now stuck at ver 24.7 of Palemoon.
It is sad to say, but with Win7, I find that I use IE9 more and more because it doesn’nt seem to have the compatibility complications Firefox/Palemoon have extensions, PDFs, Flash, etc. I cannot upgrade beyond IE9, because the later versions kill my IE-based tabbed browser and its add-on tools.
My update works fine with 8.1
:) The browser works now however the flash player keeps crashing.
I also use pale moon, for the last year or so no problems until the latest update, now Netflix does not work, so I installed FF again and use it just for NF, otherwise PM has been flawless, I like it and it is very light, everything FF has that I use works perfectly on PM, with NF being the exception now.
Uninstall/reinstall. In the install process, pay attention - toward the end there is a box, something like 'Enable free trial' that must be unchecked.
ABSOLUTELY DO NOT. An IE subsystem named ActiveX is and always has been the most exploitable method of virus transmission there is. Most drive-bys use an ActiveX exploit... Using a browser without ActiveX (to include the ActiveX plugin for Mozilla) is a major step in securing your system.
I found a quick little software tool that seems to remedy certain problems with the Microsoft OS - Toolwiz
I downloaded it from Major Geeks - and used it quite successfully several times on my Desktop and my wife’s. Seems to fix broken links, uninstalled and corrupted HKEY entries, and a few other issues that come with operating from a Window’s based system.
I think the Browser community wants only the add-ons that are compatible with their software - and anything else - they are not willing to fix. Firefox was the premium choice yrs ago - I used it on everything...but with recent upgrades , I found it to stall and i had to go with Chrome.
Depends on what Web experience flavor one wants to go with...
patriot08 I agree with roamer, delete your version completely and then download the free version again, and pay attention to make sure that at no point do you try the “trial” full oe premium version, make sure that you stick with free only.
If you mess up, delete and do it again.
Thanks a lot!
Katy
Thanks for the reference to Pale Moon. D/l’ed onto older Thinkpads (Linux and Windows) and it’s a swift browser.
