Open Letter to CEO of Blue Cross/Blue Shield

Dear Blue Cross CEO:

Just yesterday, I received your glossy brochure encouraging me to apply for Obamacare insurance through your company. No doubt this is because my husband lost his job recently, and we are now on COBRA. COBRA also tried to entice us to use Obamacare, saying we could have less costly insurance through the government exchanges.

Your brochure went to great pains to tell me about the possibility of subsidies if our household income was below certain levels. Since my husband is now unemployed and I have been either mom or grandma-on-call for the past 30+ years, our income is now zero. So, yes, I suppose we would qualify for subsidies if my husband cannot find another job. At the age of 64, it won't be easy.

I don't mean to be rude, but you can take your glossy brochure, roll it up tight, and stuff it. Do you find some irony in the fact that part of the reason my husband lost his job was due to the increased costs forced on employers by the ACA and the rotten economy due to Obama's economic policies? In other words, we lost our health insurance because the Affordable Care Act made health insurance unaffordable for my husband's employer. Nice, eh?

As for subsidies, where do these come from? Is there a subsidy fairy who holds giant pots of money and is just waiting to dole it out to eager takers? Surely you know that whatever we might receive in subsidies would be taken directly from the pockets of our children, friends, and neighbors. I don't know about you, but I think it's immoral to use government to force other people to pay our bills.

People are saying that the big insurance companies were duped into promoting a law that will lead to their own destruction. Single payer, government health care has been the goal of the leftists for decades. Sen. Ted Kennedy (who has been sober for over 5 years now) even admitted as much saying that health care and health insurance in the US would be demolished bit by bit until Americans threw up their hands and clamored for a UK style health care system. Apparently your greed overcame your good sense, and the thought of millions of mandatory consumers was too much to resist. May I just say that I hope your company is the first to fail.

Sincerely,

Someone who will never participat in your scheme of legalized theft

That’s the plan! (Well, the first part anyway).

“The insurance companies are too greedy - the government will impliment one, fair plan for everybody.”

Then, in x number of years when prices go up and care goes down: “The doctors are too greedy - the government will control the medical profession to make sure they all provide the same care for everyone at a reasonable price.”

It was never about medical insurance - it is about health care.

Some would say blaming the insurance companies is misplaced because this is Obolacare’s fault. They’d be wrong. The big insurance companies backed Obolacare.

“If you truly have zero or very little income you would qualify for regular Medicaid (most all states don’t count assets under 65). “

I thought limited assets were a requirement for Medicaid, except in states that expanded it.

LOL! that’s good. Good luck to you, we’ve been struggling here too, so you have my sympathy.

I love your attitude.

There are several Christian health cost sharing groups out there, if you’re interested.

She is blaming the insurance company for backing Obamacare, of which one consequence was her husband being laid off.

Pining, you offered two good reasons for avoiding Medicaid as an option. Let me give you a third, since you identified yourself as in your 60’s:

Persons over the age of 55 receiving medicaid benefits will have the financial total of those benefits repaid to Medicaid from their estate upon their death, a mandated policy known as Medicaid Estate Recovery. ( there are state by state guidelines for cases where the deceased has a surviving spouse, disabled dependent or child under 21)

Wishing you all the best in the challenging days ahead.

Yikes....so a person could work their whole lives except for being unemployed for a span after age 55, and have their estate wiped out if they get sick? And the person has no control over what those Medicare expenses are billed as, if they use them. Since Obamacare is mandatory, is a person whose eligibility is Medicare forced to either pay a fine or go on Medicare? Why would anyone use it under those conditions?

With low interest on savings, periods of unemployment common for many, and now forced overpriced insurance, it seems that wealth being transferred from one generation to another is disappearing. I can't imagine how the middle and upper middle class ever regain their status.

We do need to understand that politicians of both major parties were in on this.

The hospitals, insurance companies etc. etc. wanted some sort of “reform” and they got it, first from Romney in Massachusetts and then from Obama nationwide.

We also need to know that the Republicans voted against Obamacare mostly for show with a few principled execptions.

The GOP will do nothing to reverse the core of ACA...they secretly wanted it too because big money special interests that line their political pockets wanted it.

When do we start a new political party in this country that really wants to change things does not sound such a far fetched idea to me anymore....

"As for subsidies, (AKA Free Sh!t- Obamaphones, Food stamps, Housing, College, Healthcare, exc...) where do these come from? I added a little of my own two cents to this because what is written here can be applied to everything that's going wrong in our country.

Every single person in the USA should have to read this, especially LIV's who apparently do believe there is a subsidy fairy, (and not, in reality, their own children and friends), who will fly in and pay for all the free stuff. The LIV's have to wake up, if our nation is to survive. They need to become informed of the truth .

They need to be asked if they would prefer to live in a country where "everything" (food, housing, healthcare, college) is free, or would they want to live in a place where "everyone" is free?

If they choose "everything" ask them if they have any idea of what daily life is like for someone who lives in Cuba, or North Korea -Places where "it's all free", but you are not free, because the government controls absolutely every single aspect of each person's life. (They need to be told in detail, exactly what people experience who live in these countries.)

Will the LIV'S still want to have everything for free once they know where this empowering your politicians to take from others to give to you always ends up-Government tyranny, poverty, and misery?

I would think not. But it's going to be very difficult to wake people up to the facts about the "Free Stuff for Everyone (and no freedom for anyone)" government the elitist libs and GOPe are trying to get us to go along with. But the above paragraph from this letter to the insurance company is an EXCELLENT start. Outstanding post. Well done.

Medicaid, not Medicare. Medicaid is help for the indigent, regardless of age. If you have assets, they will be used to reimburse.
