I think that the Big12 screwed themselves by not having enough teams to make a conference champion, and then they did further damage by naming co-champions. Even though it’s not TCU’s fault, that they handily beat a team that hasn’t won any conference games this season at the end, I think it just meant that this week, they weren’t in the top four. Then they lost the head to head to Baylor, so the committee didn’t think they should rank them ahead of Baylor.

I think Ohio State is in. And here’s why.

Oklahoma lost to Oklahoma State. That was a common win for both TCU and Baylor, and now that win isn’t nearly as impressive, and it casts doubt on the strength of the Big 12 overall. I think that’s just enough to give Ohio State the edge.

And with an 8 or 16 team field, somebody gets screwed.

Think about it. Is it that easy to separate the 8th or 9th best team? The 16th and 17th best team? It would be even more difficult then trying to separate the 4th and 5th best team.

The only fair system is to have 4 or 8 conferences and only include winners of the conference championship games.

And then you’d still have arguments about the seedings.

I think most commentators agree that beyond the Top Eight, there isn’t a really viable championship contender. This season should have been an eight-team playoff, including both Baylor and TCU.

It seems from looking at the rankings that there is a clear distinction between the teams with 1 loss and 2 losses. This year I would have put 6 teams in the playoffs. Let the numbers 3-6 play their way into the semis. If some year there are 8 teams have 4 first round games.

Adjust the number according to the rankings each year or face the same crap every year as some great teams sit it out.

I think that no matter what system we have, there will always be someone who feels screwed over.

I also think that the Big12 screwed themselves over by not having enough teams to have a conference champion. They used to have 14 teams. Four left. That tells me something, and it’s something that the Big 12 should have been paying attention to a few years ago when all this realignment happened. If 4 teams were leaving, why didn’t they gather at least 2?

I think ultimately fans were begging for good matchups, and what they came up with this time isn’t a bad start to the first playoff system college football has had. There are some kinks and things may need to be tweaked. I would’ve been happy to see any of these top 6 matched up against each other this season.

Yes, UTex should get the credit for this outcome.

However, Ohio State owes Wisconsin big time for taking a dive.

I was thinking that but hadn't heard anyone say it yet.

Yeah, Melvin Gordon was happy to throw away his Heisman just so that Ohio State could be in the playoffs. /sarc

I said it during the 2nd quarter that Wisconsin was taking a dive.

They felt a “slight sting” before the game. LOL!

He’s headed for the NFL. He pulled a “Clowney.”

The logo does resemble a marijuana leaf, but it’s also different. Is this the first you’ve seen it?

Clowney didn’t just have a problem playing in a bowl game; halfway through the season, he stopped playing.

Gordon may want to save his body for the NFL, but that doesn’t mean he threw the game, along the the rest of the entire team.

You people who are accusing the BigTen of corruption had better come up with some hard evidence. Otherwise, you’re beginning to sound like the fake rape journalists.

I think it’s sad. The Big 12 screwed themselves over by not having enough teams to field a conference champion. They thought the rules that applied to all the other conferences didn’t apply to them. Now that it bit them in the rear, the Big 12 fans are accusing the Big Ten of cheating by having one team sacrifice itself in near humiliating fashion for the sake of the whole league.

This is nothing but a sour grapes accusation, so as to deflect from what really happened. Ohio State won as a team, and Wisconsin didn’t throw the game. They may have been defeated, but it wasn’t because of an agreement to cheat.

Your sarc is spot on. How can people in all seriousness think Wisconsin took a dive in that game? They did - but it was a humiliating defeat at the hands of a iired-up, no holds barred Ohio State team. No team plays to lose, and certainly not Wisconsin. Geesh!
