Proposed legislation that would make it easier to change the gender on New York City birth certificates passed an important hurdle Friday.
The Council’s Health Committee unanimously approved the bill, paving the way for the full Council vote on Monday.
The legislation would let anyone change the gender on their birth certificate provided they have documentation from a broad list of providers — including doctors, nurses, and therapists — that they identify with a different gender.
Previously, the city required proof of surgery or procedures like hormone therapy to change a gender on a birth certificate.
"These measures will transform the lives of transgendered people," said Health Chair Corey Johnson.
Some 40% of transgendered people face discrimination because of documents that don’t match their new gender, according to the National Transgender Discrimination Survey.
Everybody should be able to carry a card around with them stating who they want to be on that particular day.

Don’t birth certificates list sex, not gender?
God knew our names before we were born and had a special plan and purpose for our lives. To change what God has created and intended is mockery.

How many “X” chromosomes do you have?
How many “Y” chromosomes do you have?
If you have equal or more Y to X your “Male”
If you have more X then Y your “Female”
That is just fraud, pure and simple. I feel so sorry for the generation growing up today.
Why even have birth certificates?
What is the point of a birth certificate if you can change “girl” to “boy”, or change “Kenya” to “Hawaii”? A birth certificate should be an official record certifying what happened on the date of birth, without reference to later political aspirations or mental illness.
if one of these/male/female/whatevers is involved in a crime and DNA evidence shows the perp to be a female....does he/she...get off because the record shows tHat she/he/it isn’t a female??????

At this point in the descent into madness, that seems entirely possible, especially for anyone who is not an American citizen or for certain groups who are deemed to be politically correct and therefore “more equal” than others, as we see happening right now.
