SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Sustained winds at or near hurricane strength in the highest elevations with gusts exceeding 100 miles per hour across the Sierra summit are forecast for Thursday, with Bay Area winds easily gusting past 50 miles per hour in urban areas and 70-80 miles per hour in the local mountains and hills in what could be the storm of the decade.

Computer models are able to break down the exact time of highest danger. By mid-morning Thursday, models indicate winds peaking. Along the coast, 60 mile per hour winds are forecast, with higher gusts.

From a favorite book of mine, "Voyage" by Sterling Hayden:
"It's blowing like a sissy at the Turk Street Bath house".

What, is SF competing with the U.K. for storm of the century?

It's gonna be a big one and that's good.

We can use the 3-5inches of predicted rain.

Problem is we've had about 2.5in in the last couple of weeks so a few trees are likely to fall...like my 110ft Redwood in the backyard.

Yikes.

“From a favorite book of mine, “Voyage” by Sterling Hayden”

Was that “Voyage” or “Wanderer”? Wanderer was his autobiography where he took his kids on a sailboat to Tahiti to escape from his soon-to-be-ex wife. An outstanding book.

It's from "Voyage", a novel he wrote after his autobiography. Set in 1896, it tells about the last days of big sailing ships and the politics of rich and poor, ship owners and the sailors/slaves of the day alongside the Democrat convention of 1896 where McKinley defeated William Jennings Bryan. Bryan's famous line from his convention speech about the gold standard:
"You shall not press down upon the brow of labor this crown of thorns; you shall not crucify mankind upon a cross of gold."

If there are no sharks involved, then this cannot be the storm of the century...

We had a large redwood limb break off and hit the roof big end first Sunday evening. The roofers put a tarp over the section until they can repair it after this storm. I hope the tarp doesn’t blow off...
