Do you remember who used to post the tech stuff of antique radios from time to time?

Keith remembers, but he said he would have to look back in his comments to see who it was. Keith is a big antique radio head. He can fix them, and he’s learning more and more about repairing and refurbishing them. What do you want to know?

Evening, folks. Look what the wife is negotiating to buy me for Christmas - a 1946 Philco:

It'll need a little touch of restoration, but it's a beaut. I'm going to put it in the living room.

Oh, Vision - I was working on the PC of an 88-year-old, rock-ribbed conservative vet in San Diego on Friday, fixing a few e-mail and malware issues. Our conversation steered to old-time radio. He about cried when I opened his web browser to The Big Show. He had me bookmark it, and he's listening tonight.

Wow Viking, a ‘46 Philco. Cool. Is it local?

Yarp. At an antiques mall here in the valley. And my son-in-law knows the owner. This may be an under $100 deal. Which is why I'm kinda giddy at the moment.

Didn’t have the extra time to get him signed up as a Freeper - wanted to, but he wasn’t the posting type. I got him and Ed hooked up, though.

Very Cool. I just acquired a Capehart Phono. Don’t forget to replace those electrolytics before you crank it up :)

Probably. He’s a HUGE Fibber McGee And Molly fan. If you could have only heard the emotion in his voice when I was showing him Ed’s past shows, it would have made your throat tighten. Boy, did it make him happy. When you can do that for a 90-ish war vet whom you only now across a digital telephone line, it makes you feel like you just done some good in this world, if even for just one person.

PM me if you get it to work - see my above posts. I’d love to be able to port these broadcasts through that thing somehow if the deal works out.........I’ve been contemplating the same thing myself.

It's going to get a bow-to-stern inspection, you betcha. I've been told the tubes all fire, but a couple are cranky, so it had reception issues. It's going to be a project.

But, WHAT a project it is!!!!
