An Indiana police officer has irked several in his South Bend community with a T-shirt he’s selling that touts a take-off slogan of the “I Can’t Breathe” mantra that followed New York suspect Eric Garner’s death — “Breathe Easy: Don’t Break the Law.”

The aim of the shirt’s message is to say “police are there for you,” the South Bend uniform store owned by Mishawaka Police Cpl. Jason Barthel said in a statement, the New York Daily News reported.

I’ve been in those piles with 350+ pounders.

My first reaction was where was the taser. Din’t at least the Sgt have a taser?

However, having said that, I won’t judge the cops in this one. sometimes it’s go for what you know and survival mode.

Best approach, don’t resist arrest.

What a stupid idea. The implication is that if you break the law, any law, you shouldn’t breathe easy? Laws like J-walking or selling illegal cigarettes?

The term “breathe easy” relates to the choke hold and asphyxiation death of Garner. So alluding to breathing in this case implies the literal act of breathing. It is not in the sense of “breathing easy” which implies a state of relaxation or ease.

Stalin’s NKVD chief said “show me the man and I’ll find you the crime” The Federal register is filled with so many unknowable rules carrying the force of law that most people are breaking the law every day.

So if you resist arrest you should have the air squeezed out of your lungs until you suffocate???

C'mon, you KNOW that is a lie. He died of heart failure in an ambulance, not from suffocation. When you can't breathe, you can't speak, as he did repeatedly. He died of gross obesity and the medical problems it causes.

Uh...no. The implication is not to resist arrest.

People are in denial over the ever growing police state around us. Many old school LEOs are seeing it, but don’t want to rock the boat. Many of the young 20 and 30 something LEOs are all for it.

Joe Stalin couldn’t have said it better. Replace the badge with a sickle and hammer.

You want a police state?

Replace local police departments with a Federal Police Force, this is one reason that Obama and Holder are vested in Ferguson, they want to propose a Federal-based solution to the problem.

I don’t admire the police taking an increasingly hostile “us against them attitude”, and now openly getting in our faces, and wearing the slogans on their clothes.

There is a reason that police are growing more deadly, and that we increasingly fear them.

In the 1990s I could see this troubling attitude growing in my police magazines and catalogs, as the ads were not just about military looking gear and attaining the military “look”, but were selling military type T shirts such as “Don’t run, you’ll only die tired” to police, and other such T shirts that reflected the soldiering that we military do and a mentality that we need, instead of the attitude and mentality that these civilians are supposed to have as they police our neighborhoods.

We don’t need the untouchable, unionized, armed segment of our local governments continuing to increase their strutting and reinforce their own internal arrogance and aggression with these direct displays of power.

Here’s a big problem with that: the protestors chose to link the two cases.

Gee I can't imagine why when the Mantra in the Hood is "Stop Snitchin'" Who made it "Us vs Them"?

Un no.... Cops are always trained to say “you’re resisting arrest” every time. And now the cops will be federalized (armored vehicles, federal liaisons, and training) and it will get a lot worse.

Nasty. You are for the 0bama police state!!!

Show me the man and I’ll find you the crime. You going to arrest me for a thought crime now?

Yeah, you kind of off on the deep end there. You seem a bit too flighty for a rational debate.
