Given women are the real demographic for this makes sense to cut out the swimsuit stuff.

Actually, I'd say the opposite is true. Given the audience is mostly female, the swimsuit stuff is critcal, lest the opportunity for cattiness be reduced.

My wife occasionally makes remarks like "that makes her look fat" or "she has a nice figure" so I don't think the swimsuit round is irrelevant to women either. They seem to judge other women based on looks too.

But I leave it to the women to correct me here.

Who's the hottest in all the land? That's what those pageants are meant to decide.
