George is dead. But there’s an Aldabra at the Oakland Zoo, over 100 years old:

See post #13. The tortoise which righted the other was acting in instinctive self-interest.

Desert tortoises, the kind you can be jailed forever for if you bother one, fight for territorial dominance by trying to flip each other over. The winner goes away leaving the loser helpless on its back in the desert heat. C’est la guerre.

So, what was the ‘self-interest’?

Nah, I don’t think you invented tortoise talk. I speak with a certain amount of authority, being the human handler of Zack and Mack, America’s favorite two-headed turtle. In fact, while I am here I will plug their book, The Smile Ambassadors, which can be had here: http://tinyurl.com/kwz3odo

The sequel, The Smile Thief, is being written right now.

Now, Zack and Mack and I have an agreement when it comes to story writing. They were such a nuisance at the desk by knocking over the can with pencils and walking all around the keyboard, that I agreed to play stenographer and take down the story and type it out for them.

Granted, they are not a tortoise, but in turtle talk, that is just a different dialect, if you will. Turtles have long had an oral tradition, heck, they even pre-date most dinosaurs. Pretty amazing little guys (and gals)

The rescuer was unusually interested in the backside of the rescue-ee afterwards, wasn’t he? Tortoise damsel in distress?

Well, at my age, I don’t run; and I certainly don’t crawl.

But, I’ve already beat you at ‘swimming’, up-thread.

My next goal is: Flying :-)

G’nite, Darlin’!

LOL!

I didn’t even know that there was such a thing as a ‘Turtle Race’! until I looked it up this morning.

But I don’t have a turtle, now :-(

Happy Holidays!

It is a stimulating sport...marred by a cheating scandal in the 1970s. Shame, shame, shame. Is there nothing sacred?
