Though many Cuban-American Catholics praise the pontiff for encouraging progress, others feel betrayed by their spiritual leader.

Those who equate Raul Castro with the devil are incensed by the pope's diplomacy. Cuban exile Efrain Rivas says he feels abandoned, calling himself "a Catholic without a pope."

The Pope is making a pretty clean sweep through faithful Catholics. One betrayal after another.

Pope Francis is to Castro and Putin what Pope John Paul II was to Thatcher and Reagan.

I personally believe that the Catholic Church has been on this trajectory for a long time, The Pope is of the same fashion of Obama, relativism....it’s ok to sin.

I grew up with the teaching, if you aren’t for God, you are against him. You can’t sit on the sidelines and get a pass.

John Paul was the last real Pope I remember.

Not being Catholic, I don’t follow real closely, but seem to remember that Francis was some degree an Argentine communist in his early days. Am I right or wrong?

Has the 50 year Cuba embargo succeeded?
Castro crowd gone?
Cubans more free than 50 years ago?
Are there less human rights violations now compared to 50 years ago?
Cubans richer than 50 years ago?
Is the Cuba embargo beneficial to US economy?
How long does an embargo has to be in effect to be called a success? How is not this a failed policy after 50 years of trying? Does this policy fit definition of insanity?

Can some Cuba experts explain please?

His fellow Argie, Che, is the Pope’s hero.

I saw him up close when he visited Living History Farms back in the 70s.

The Castro brothers were on their last legs, and Obama breathed new life into the dictatorship.

This has nothing to do with the embargo, since Cuba can trade with the rest of the world, but it has no money to buy anything anyway, thanks to the Castros’ festering Communism. The only thing that kept it running was money from the USSR, in its day, and then from the Venezuelan dictatorship, which is now collapsing itself. VZ is no longer sending oil and food their way, and the Castros destroyed the Cuban productive capacity to the extent that the country has to import 2/3 of its food.

But I expect Obama to be giving them foreign aid any day now. Watch for it. He and the Pope are propping up their Marxist buddies just when they were about to implode on their own and release their people from captivity.

BXVI was very good, and they managed to get rid of him. Bergoglio supposedly had set his sights on the papacy a long time ago, and his stated goal was to “fully implement” Vatican II, which means destroying the Church and converting it into a leftist NGO.

He’s doing this by appointing elderly bishops and cardinals who are the last gasp of the Vatican II left and had nearly become irrelevant and beyond voting age. But he has put this geriatric leftist crowd in control of just about every office in the Church, in less than two years, which shows you how coordinated it was.

Thanks for a substantive post. Yes, Obama could very well send foreign aid to Cuba. But that is a different issue.

My questions in post above are strictly about trading embargo with Cuba. I have seen no benefits or good results after 50 years of trying. The Castro’s are as entrenched as ever. Cubans are no better off than 50 years ago. And American business people can not sell in Cuba.

Foreign trade is what opened up China to the world. Why not Cuba?
