A man was killed in a Christmas Eve shooting inside the crowded Oakwood Center mall, and a suspect has been arrested, the Jefferson Parish sheriff said.
Sheriff Newell Normand said the shooting occurred about 4:20 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 24) at the Footlocker shoe store.
The victim, identified by authorities as 24-year-old Harvey resident James Vaughn, had just made a purchase when a gunman walked up and opened fire from about three feet away, Normand said. At least three shots were fired, he said.
The gunman ran, but a suspect was taken into custody several blocks away from the mall after a chase, Normand said. That suspect has been identified by JPSO as 25-year-old Gary M. Francois, of Marrero.
There were no other injuries and no other shooters, the sheriff said. He said investigators are trying to determine the motive.

Can there be more than one 24 year old person with the same name in Jefferson Parrish?
One of the demands of the local Ferguson rioters was that they didn't want to pay for all of the parking tickets and moving violation fines that holder's people had accrued. Of course the powers that be caved.
In the NYC riots a recurring theme is to stop the "broken window" policing of Guliani. Let minorities commit crimes ''cause it's racist if you hold them to the same standards as Crackers.

Black lives matter, but just not quite as much as a new pair of limited edition Air Jordans
Make sure that letter is not in cursive, or it will be a Civil Rights Violation.
Tragically true. There is no satisfaction, peace, or happiness to be found in things. Only the Lord.
Isaiah 55:2 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread?Isaiah 59:7-8 Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths. The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace.
Dude where are you and where have you been?; Well past time for action...
My old stomping grounds. Gone down hill since it got “de-gentrified”.
Joe is the one with the tagline you recalled. (via google! Be careful what you post!)
The pic I have of the crime scene you can’t see the face but he has sagging pants, clean stylish jeans, and immaculate sneakers on. Fashion seems more urban so probably black.
Let me guess..the shooter is one of Obama’s many many sons..now if the victim is white Im guessing no protest march in his honor? Won’t be seeing Al Sharpton saying “WhiteLivesMatter”
Welcome to our Islamic future.....
Francois and Vaughn both have prior criminal histories.http://www.wafb.com/story/27704703/1-killed-1-arrested-in-foot-locker-shooting-at-oakwood-mallPolice say Francois has been arrested for aggravated battery, resisting arrest, disturbing the peace, simple criminal damage, simple battery, numerous counts of unruly and uncontrollable along with a number of traffic attachments.
Police say Vaughn has been arrested for numerous counts of parole violation, illegal carrying a concealed weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of cocaine, aggravated battery, resisting arrest, simple assault, aggravated criminal damage, simple battery, theft and numerous counts of contempt of court.
I'm surprised that Oakwood remained viable for as long as it did, being located so close to the Fischer housing projects in neighboring Algiers. And by "neighboring", I mean you could see the projects from the mall parking lot. It must've been heavily policed as early as the mid-'70s. I know there was a police sub-station in that mall in the '80s (always a hint that an area is in decline).
Sheriff Lee was tough. Never allowed Algiers too far into Gretna.
True, Harry Lee was a no-nonsense guy when it came to keeping the criminal element out of Jefferson Parish. Totally impervious to the forces of political correctness, too.
Yep. Since he was killed by a fellow Obamason there will be nobody protesting that Vaughan’s life wasn’t worth anything.
“Sheriff Lee was tough. Never allowed Algiers too far into Gretna.”
These days, I would take Algiers over Terrytown, Gretna, Harvey or Marrero.
Algiers is bring rehabbed and gentrified, the JP areas of the West Bank have turned into the Lower Ninth Ward.
