San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh has reportedly accepted Michigan's offer to return to his alma mater and become the Wolverines' next head coach, according to CSNBayArea.com, which reports that Harbaugh will be announced at a press conference in Ann Arbor on Tuesday morning. Jason Cole of Bleacher Report and writer John U. Bacon, author of several books about Michigan football, also reported on Saturday that Harbaugh was expected to accept the Michigan job.

I’m not a Wolverines fan, but I do know that they are one of the few programs with a winning record against the SEC. That includes a winning record in bowls.

Why the Niner's allowed this well orchestrated and pre planned event to occur leads one to one conclusion only: They wanted the hype and the anger to fuel the flames of this rivalry.
Were I in his shoes I would have taken the Michigan job and stipulated that I don’t do the living room recruiting thing. An Nfl job probably lasts 3-7 years on average while a good college gig can last a lifetime.
I agree. It doesn’t matter how much you pay him, he won’t be able to get the recruits. Michigan will never be any better than a 10-2 or 9-3 team with him there.

Many people will "root" for college teams despite never attending that college (and in many cases, these rabid fans have never attended college at all.)
For example, down in Alabama, you have large numbers of "Crimson Tide" fans who never got past 8th grade, yet they worship Bear Bryant and get very emotionally involved in their games, to the point that they sometimes shoot people dead if Alabama does not pull out the win.
Most rabid fans formed their allegiances as youngsters.
