What was the lowest gas price you can remember both as a young person, (non-driver) and as a driver?

In Texas, 1972, there was a gas war in September. Gas price was 19 cents a gallon. I didn’t pay much attention before that.

17.9c/gal mid 60s Houston.

Still had to tell the difference between red diesel and clear diesel between farming and driving.

Why? I thought boats (even then) could run on regular gasoline. White gas, as a rule, has an average octane rating of 56-60.

19 cents a gallon, Joplin MO, mid-60s. The usual price was higher, but there was a "gas war" on, and two stations across from each other had dropped their prices.

I paid 99 cents a gallon as recently as 2000, also in Missouri.

Most of my childhood, the price was around 30 cents. You could be low on gas, give them $1, and get around 3 gallons, enough to drive home at 10 mpg. Then give the car back to dad.

I remember my Dad would always say, in the late 50s early 60s, 10 gallons or a fill up whatever comes first, and he’d hand the kid 3 bucks.

24.9 cents a gallon, regular. It happened in 1950s when there were gas “wars.” Usually the price was 49.9 cents a gallon.

There’s a U-Haul/Phillips 66 in Greenville, that still uses GB/V-R Trimline pumps. Went there (it’s a 70-mile drive from Dallas) to fill up on alcohol-free gas. Too bad it was closed on Sundays. They also have full service. In business since 1954, I think.

It was .15 cents per gallon at some discount stations in Delaware in the 50s. In the late ‘60s, there was a station in Southern Maryland that sold gas tickets in $20 books. Using the tickets, the price was .20 per gallon.

Does anyone remember when the gas stations would employ these planes that would draw out the name of the gas station, like “Esso,” in the sky?
