I remember that, in Bethesda, Md. Definitely in the ‘fifties. I was three or four years old. I think they did it on the grounds of the public grade school.

Stores in my area were setting out Christmas stuff in September. But now it's all transforming into Valentine's Day stuff.

Sounds like you live in a backward area. Here, Valentines stuff started hitting the shelves 2-4 weeks before Christmas, filling the space where the cheesier Christmas crap had sold out.

Today, I received emailed photos from my indignant niece in England, showing me Easter candy already in the stores. Easter is just over 4 MONTHS away!
