There only two things Sarah Palin will get in trouble on Free Republic for: 1. Things she does. 2. Things she doesn't do.

She must own stock in pharmacy companies because she keeps a good number of the members of Free Republic's blood pressure shy high.

Also, since she knows that Trig likes to help with the dishes, why isn’t there a stepping stool by the sink?

Obviously Sarah and Todd are guilty of stepping-stool deprivation for the handicapped. How dare them do anything closet libs don't like! (Which is...everything.)

Actually it’s an opportunity for you to learn that how another parent parents is none of your concern.

It appears Trig sees the dog as an “inanimate object” rather than a flesh and blood dog that could be hurt.

It was a teachable moment IF she had explained to him the dog could be seriously hurt by standing on him/her. Plus, as some say, if the dog left, Trig would be on the floor, hitting whatever on his way down.

I'm neutral about Palin. She seems to talk in “catchy sayings”, rather than in specifics and that is troublesome.

Agreed. If children aren't supervised and taught about animals from a very young age there is a good possibility that they will be injured, even if just unintentionally by the animal. I'm on a ping list for Sarah, but she's human, and this was a mistake.

Don’t confuse a dog’s tolerance of a child’s bad behavior with a dog’s love for a child who treats it well.

Dogs may permit a child to take food from their bowl, pull ears, stand or ride on them, hug them, hit them or kick them—that does not imply that these behaviors are okay, simply that the dog is waiting for the human parent to correct the erring “pup” who is clearly ignorant of appropriate canine behavior; the same way that a houseguest may ignore a child’s rudeness with the expectation that the parents will correct the child.

Because like most liberals they are heavily medicated to begin with.

Ellen Degeneres posted a similar picture on Twitter. No fake outrage then.

Yes, but that is entirely different somehow. And...and...it's the beloved ELLEN!

The relationship between these two seems normal and healthy, and loving.

This is a captured moment in a young child’s life, the dog is not at risk, or being harmed, or abused.

You can relax now.

Do you typically assume obvious solutions to a problem as being “liberal” rather than “conservative”?

Problem: A special needs child wants to help his mother wash dishes. He attempts to communicate this desire to his mother, but she does not respond as the child wishes.

Dilemma: Child, apparently not understanding that living beings are not to be used as stepping stools, steps on a dog’s back, risking injury to the child should the dog move, tired of being used as a surrogate stepping stool. (Has it occurred to you that had this happened, her family could be the subject of investigation by various government agencies?)

Solution: Pick up a (or relocate an existing) stepping stool to be used at the sink. Most families have at least one in the house; some have one for each sink.

Talk with child about how to appropriately act around dogs to avoid being bitten and/or suffer another injury.

Amazing, a solution that doesn’t require drama or government intervention. Still having difficulty fathoming what makes that “liberal” in the modern sense of the word.

Clearly you find it a matter of your concern, as you are on this thread, rather defensively.

Why so dismissive of a common sense solution? She chose to make the incident public, therefore, it is reasonable to discuss it publicly.

Dismissal is not refutation; when you can respond to my actual points, please let me know.

It’s truly sad that someone looks to that picture and is outraged. I see a beautiful child and a beautiful dog together.

I wonder how many people claiming this is acceptable would be claiming it were equally acceptable if it were a picture of Malia or Sasha Obama or Chelsea Clinton (or insert-a-less-beloved-politician’s-child-here) at the same age?

Common sense is 5000 years of human child/Dog interaction you missed out on. What ‘concerns’ me is people that cavalierly think they know everything spouting off about things they obviously know nothing about. And your posts read like an episode of The View and how to parent. Reality check: It’s bone of your business how Palin, me or Barry Obama raise their kids, how they interact with Animals ow what they’re taught. you don’t approve? Good. Thats your choice. I don’t ‘approve’ of people spouting liberal dogma to tear down a conservative, pump their ego up and help the MSM demonize yet another benefit to our cause.

Anything else you’d like to know?

Palin *put this out there* knowing that anything she brings to the public attention can be used against her.

If the media had bugged her house and exposed a private moment, that would be a different matter.

She brought up the moment because she wanted it discussed, knowing that some would give it a pass because it involved the Palin family, some would give it a pass because they didn’t see a problem with it, and that some would not.

But the animal was not in pain. Look at the photo: the dog is resting comfortably on the floor. Dogs don’t act macho and “hide pain.” They scream unendurably if in any kind of pain.
