The Travel Channel was started by in 1987 by Trans World Airlines. They sold it to The Weather Channel. Then Paxon bought it. Then Discovery bought it in 1997.
In 2009, Discovery sold it to Scripps Networks (TN-based owner of HGTV, DIY, Food, Cooking, and Great American Country) for $1.1 Billion.
That's a step in the right direction but we'll see if he implements the change.
Ever watched?
I’ve had relatives say they wouldn’t waste time watching some zombie horror show-—they prefer great character-driven drama. Then they sat down and watched an episode of “The Walking Dead.” The response? “OMG, I had no idea.”
Animal Planet has been ruined for me. There are hardly any animals to be found on that channel anymore...they even changed their slogan. “Surprisingly Human”...what?
Now it’s all about swamp dwellers and treehouse builders, which makes no sense to me. “Big Cat Diary” in the early morning is the only thing I care about watching.
I couldn’t agree more. I used to love Animal Planet but it has been ruined too. Why do they even bother calling it “Animal Planet” anymore?
I don’t care what they say. That mermaid was real!
Maybe it's just me gettin' older but that seems like a hundred years ago !
Yes, I remember when they showed the series "War and Remembrance" on the History Channel and they would have historians on to explain what was going on.
A.k.a. adding an agenda. This is basically the organizing principle of all leftist media. Not merely reporting a story or showing us the world, but loading it up with political messages.
True enough. But I kind of like Treehouse Masters. My personal rule for watching "reality" shows is that there has to be a visual appeal to the show because the "plot" is 100% fake. Therefore I like Treehouse Masters, Toy Hunter, Oddities etc... because you get to SEE fun stuff. And it is why I will never see Duck Dynasty, because it is exclusively plot driven and therefore fake. Oh, and Whale Wars sucks!
Also I love all the physics shows like How the Universe Works, Through the Wormhole, Secrets of the Universe, Strip the Cosmos, and about 10 others just like 'em . Sure, the science is dumbed down, but they are nice to fall asleep to.
It was called History vs. Hollywood and it was educational which is why it isn't on anymore ;p
I did watch.
Something was on, I watched a while and said to myself, what is this garbage.
It was Walking Dead.
I had the same experience with Game of Thrones.
LOL, okay then.
I see no point.
No, all of those are reality shows, with only an occasional foray into history, when Rick or Cory or Mike or Frank read a card.
I actually like Mountain Men, and occasionally watch Pawn Stars or American Pickers, but I don’t delude myself that they are about “History”. They are entertainment, but I just don’t want to see them all the time, or a least mix it up a little with more historical perspectives.
For example, maybe something about Winston Churchill. Or how about the initial spread of Islam, and how Charles Matel finally stopped it in France? It would be interesting to educate people that at one time, most of the Middle East was Christian. How about how English got the way it is, with a piece on Germanic Saxon to Norman French to modern English? More on the founding of the colonies in North America and Australia and New Zealand? A history of the early Republican party and the democrats, who supported slavery and the KKK?
More shows like these would actually teach people.
I admit I’m not much of a science enthusiast...I think more men are into it than women.
I’ve never watched “Duck Dynasty”, either. I think the family in the show is good people, but the commercials I’ve seen show too much mugging and that kind of thing.
My thought was what has George Romero wrought?
So would the show on right now I’ve been following be educational enough? The curse of Oak Island. Lot’s of history and interesting theories as well as science going on tracing believed hidden items all the way back to The Arc of The Covenant. I think on the main Discovery and History channels their documentaries are shown mostly in the daytime with programing aimed for supporting the station and keeping the bills paid up shown at night. History does have two channels BTW the way. H2 is more focused on the programing you’re talking about.
TWD beats anything Romero ever wrought!
I thought TLC should be changed to FSC for the “Freak Show Channel” since nearly every show is what the circa 1900’s freak show had, such as the 600 bearded woman.
