Sorority sisters at the University of Virginia were ordered by their national chapters to avoid fraternity events this weekend a mandate that many of the women said was irrational, sexist and contrary to the schools culture.
Its not about one night of parties, several students said, but about their ability to make their own choices.
And theyre not taking that lightly.
The rule came after a traumatic fall semester in Charlottesville, including the violent death of a student and now-discredited allegations of a gang rape at a U-Va. fraternity. Both forced a thorough examination of campus safety, drinking culture and Greek life.

Gee, in the olden days, the hot water in their shower would go out.
You can quit just as in a fraternity. Of course you pass on your lifetime in advanced employment.
Exactly. Women are tough enough to be Navy SEALs, but they are not tough enough to visit a frat house without being attacked.
Which is it?
Hmmm. Maybe there is a market for chastity belts with college or sorority logos on them?
Yes, of course, the Hannah Graham murder. I forgot that was U-Va.
How about a "thorough examination" of the lie of feminism?
Very good post! lol
He was not a vagrant, but a UVA hospital employee who is suspected in a series of sexual assaults going back ten years in various places in Commonwealth. And he doesn’t fit the privileged, white frat boy narrative.
IIRC it was the Duke basketball team that had hired strippers more than 10 times the year the lacrosse team hired them once. It only takes once.
Thanks for that info.
Waged by those who despise liberty and believe “group-think” is intelligent, independent thought.
What the sorority should be doing is encouraging women to purchase a firearm, train to use it as an expert, and then support carry laws.
No fool would risk assaulting a woman who carries responsibly and knows how to use her weapon.
Of course, they couldn’t be going out and getting drunk and using drugs if they’re carrying (illegal and not responsible carrying).
This is a perfect example of when there are no rules and no accountability the end result is repression.
If they soroites stay home - there will be more assaults in the community as the horny goats will have nothing to go after.
It might be a good idea to tell the girls not to go out and get $hit faced.
They need to issue all of the Sorority sisters Burkas.
Amen.
Thing is, I do think that young woman need to stop pushing the university system to take care of their safety. They need to wise up and stop going to booze fests and think that they should be able to dress how they want, get as drunk as they want, and be treated like ladies. Stupid of them to put themselves in this situation and think it’s their right to be safe. Rape is inexcusable, but we’re told constantly how we can prevent getting into bad situations.
As a student back in the late 70’s I went to many a frat party. My friends and I followed the same procedures that we did when we went to the clubs - go with a trusted friend, have two - at the most, three - drinks, keep your eyes open and trust your instincts - LEAVE if you think things are heading south. We didn’t have to worry so much about drugged drinks back then, so I would expect a young woman today to add to that list; only take a drink that was opened in front of her and go with a full stomach so she wouldn’t be tempted by snacks.
Some girls I knew threw caution to the winds and some of them ended up regretting it. But the cautious ones actually ended up having fun.
Any young woman - or any young man, for that matter - needs to draw upon his or her own resources and exercise common sense when going out into the wide world. I’m not saying that being careful means that nothing bad will ever happen, but the chances are greatly lessened.
If I remember correctly, it was Janet Napolitano and her drunken frat sisters who did their unwanted, crude, sex-crazed rampage through DHS. Can college sororities be far behind?
