That was the football version of expecting to change the weather by riding a bicycle.

Lynch is 1 of 5 on goal to go from the one, and the Patriots had their goal-line big bodies in while the Seahawks had 3WR in. Running that has a pretty good chance of getting stuffed. Instead they ran a pick play isolating a bottom-of-the-roster rookie on the back side of the pick. That has pretty good odds.

Instead, Browner stood up the receiver who was to place the pick, and the rookie correctly diagnosed the play and broke to where the ball was going.

It could have been. Were it not for that interception on the goal line with time running out in the fourth quarter.

That pass that put the Seahawks in scoring position was just stunning. A successful pass defense then a bounce off both legs while lying on your back, and then two more tips before corralling it. Just Wow. Then being able to get up and run out of bounds to stop the clock.

I’ll put my money on Lynch. Numerous current and former NFL players are tweeting that it was the worst call in SB history.

Go to a Jumbo package with 2 TE’s and punch it in.

The Patriots had their big body goal line defense in. Yeah, they were expecting Lynch who gets stuffed most of the time in that situation.

Congrats to the Pats.

I picked the SeaHawks to win, but they just couldn’t pull it out.

The Pats played a GREAT game! And I’m a Seattle fan!

Pete doesn’t call the offensive plays. Off. Coordinator Darrell Bevell calls the plays and says he called that one. He blames the receiver Lockett for not trying harder. What a leader, call the dumbest play in Super Bowl history then blame your players when it doesn’t work.

Don’t know what arrogance you’re talking about but the fight wasn’t cool. Irvin should have walked away instead of retaliating and throwing a punch back. The second one always gets the attention.

Congratulations Patriot fans. Well deserved victory. I certainly hope most are more gracious in winning than the post to which I’m replying.

"Just an aside - if the ball carrier merely touching his knee down gets a play called dead how can a guy laying flat on his back be capable of making a freak catch and advancing a ball like that?"

As an example, suppose a running back has possession of the ball and he trips and falls, but no one from the opposing team has made contact. Because he was not down by contact, he can get up and run. But if he trips and falls, and someone from the opposition makes contact while he is down, the play ends. If a player is knocked down before he has possession, but THEN catches the ball, he is still not down by contact, because he was not in possession of the ball when he was knocked down. So he is able to get up and run. Of course, if he is down and catches the ball, and an opposing player makes contact, the play is dead.

In college games, anytime a player has possession of the ball and he is down, the play ends.

But I want to know the answer to a burning question: Did Wilson lose because he wasn't black enough, or did Brady win because of white privilege?

Like I said, you go to a Jumbo package with 2 TE's and an OL playing the 3rd TE position. According to Pro Football Reference, NFL Teams run the ball 72.8% of the time from the 1-yard line. I imagine there's a reason they do that instead of passing 27.2% of the time.

Yeah. That tends to happen when plays don’t work.

Yeah. Wilson getting shut down, and then suddenly hitting the big play...again, and again.
2/4 for 50 yards and a TD...then takes the ball down the field in 29 secs for another? Really?

It was known he stresses defenses, but that was just crazy to do without a pick until the end.

I wish they would but they won’t. Eventually these spectacles will not have any football played in them at all. It’ll be all overblown network graphics, commercials for tampons, social justice PSAs and whatever singers they can scrounge up that sound like cats in heat.
