Beef is a luxury item in my household. I only buy beef when the supermarkets cut the price as the expiration date is approaching. Pork loin is around half the price of ground beef. The bacon boom has supported pork production.

I buy pork lion when it goes on sale for under $2.00/lb.
I buy the whole loin (about $14) and then have the butcher cut them into about 1 1/4” slices. Then I have him repackage them to three/package. It usually results in about 6-7 packages. Then they go into the freezer.

We have also been buying ground pork and mixing that with Marinara sauce or to make chili. It has more flavor than ground beef anyway.
