People not from the US have absolutely no concept of how big it is.

Conversely, people from the US generally don't realize how small Europe is.

And, as has already been pointed out, how big Russia is.

Canada plus the US slightly exceed Russia in area as it is now. They would still fall short of the old USSR though.
