Last week, the 11-year-old from Edmond, Oklahoma, was getting a cleaning from dental hygienist Rachel Stroble.

Stroble told the dentist, Dr. Michael Chandler, that Journee's eyes looked yellow. The dentist took a look and agreed that something wasn't right.
Chandler urged Journee's mother to take her to the doctor right away, and the yellowing of her eyes turned out to be a sign of something serious. After blood tests, an ultrasound, CT scan and MRI, the family learned their daughter had a large mass on her pancreas, and she would need extensive surgery to remove it.

Very true.
Grapefruit-sized tumor. And the kid is only 11 years old. How big is the kid? Are we talking about minority obesity here? With all the white honky taxpayers going to foot the bill for the exotic surgery? Yep. Yep. And Yep again. Now how did I know the poor sweetie was gonna be a person of color?

Unfortunately, Pancreatic Cancer is almost always fatal.
Oh Lord. My prayers for the kid. I really hope it all works out but that is just a brutal procedure for anyone, let alone an 11 year old kid.
I can't even imagine what her parents are feeling.
So the only way to suspect pancreatic cancer is eyes that look yellow?
My mother had yellowing skin which was noted by her niece nurse. She had liver duct cancer. Was dead within 3 weeks.
I know. I went to the links. Yes she is black, but not obese. Both parents work and she has insurance. The parents are trying to raise about 20 grand to cover medical expenses above what their insurance will pay, child care for their other children and help with loss of wages for the time they take off to be with their sick child. This little girl has a tough road ahead. The extensive surgical procedure she underwent tells the tale. I pray she has a good outcome.
I know - she got very lucky. I hope that her luck holds out.
Amen. I don’t usually shudder at medical procedures, but the Whipple...wow.
Short answer: I don’t know. From what I’ve heard, pancreatic cancer has few obvious symptoms, and thus is usually not detected until it’s too late.
I was reading the family’s comments on her fundraising page. They said that the tumor is benign, thank goodness! Even though it is benign, she’s going to have a tough road ahead. She’ll probably be a diabetic from having so much of her pancreas removed. Prayers to the family!
