SAN JOSE, California (AP) – As bad as recent droughts in California, the Southwest and the Midwest have been, scientists say far worse “megadroughts” are coming – and they’re bound to last for decades.

“Unprecedented drought conditions” – the worst in more than 1,000 years – are likely to come to the Southwest and Central Plains after 2050 and stick around because of global warming, according to a new study in the journal Science Advances on Thursday.

I honestly didn't know that carbon caused the first recorded droughts in 1100-1200 as well as the 35 drought in the Dust Bowl.

Gee, it’s just a coincidence that the disaster is a generation away and there’s just enough time to confiscate everyone’s wealth and enact totalitarianism to save us!

Message to the dolts in Sacramento at CBS: The south state is mostly a desert. If you venture east a tad, note that most of the area consists of “high desert” plateaus. It is called a desert because historical rain fall is minimal.

There are some positives though, some of those solar projects may become somewhat cost effective due to the lack of cloud cover so one does see a silver lining in the absence of rain clouds, eh?

If you care to take a run down to Chile (that would be to the south), take a good look at a place called the Atacama Desert. It lies east of the coastal mountains there which block moisture too. In fact, there are years that go by with no rain whatsoever.

So, power up the desalination plants, perhaps using solar power to do so.

Let’s see, the drought in the IMPERIAL VALLEY, California was caused by........When the EPA declared that the minnow in the Sacramento river was more important than the the whole population of the Imperial valley. Also, instead of building de-salinating plants in the Pacific ocean side, they spent the money on speed trains going no where. Also, the way we took care of the drought that happened in the 30’s, by building dams, and supplied the water to the parched land. AS of today, according to these “GLOBAL WARMING” idiots, the building of dams is forbidden. Is there any doubt that these people are trying to destroy everything we hold dear in this country.

Last week during the biggest storm of the season (northern California), standing next to a reservoir that that has risen 25 feet since last November the reporter was reminding all that we are currently in a drought.

I would think they would at least until after the flooding and clean up before they begin their propaganda.

The current “drought” is just one more crisis the left can use to socially engineer our society.

They have no interest in solving any problems, only to control.

Lest you worry that they've made a prediction that makes Global Warming Theory potentially falsifiable:

'Atmospheric Rivers' to Soak California as Climate Warms

Wet or dry, they're covered.

Seth Borenstein is a rabid, drooling communist. Even the climate change crowd avoids him. He does write some hilarious columns tho : )

***the worst in more than 1,000 years ***

But, I read the drought that drove the Anazazi out of Chaco Canyon and Mesa Verde lasted twenty five years, around 1245AD!
Must have been all those power plants and SUVs.

There was a reason it was known as THE GREAT AMERICAN DESERT back in the early 1800s.

A geologist noted a long time ago that California has had a bunch of 100 and 300 year long droughts, long before people were there.

I believe you are thinking of the San Joaquin Valley and Central Valley, the Imperial Valley gets it’s water from the Colorado River Aqueducts.
The San Joaquin and Central Valley’s get their water from the Central Valley Aqueduct, the whole area has been turned into a dust bowl by the environazis.
Nothing but dead orchards and fields as far as the eye can see.

The greater issue is the draining of the Ogallalla aquifer, despite a growing population.
We’ll be seeing more waste-water recycling, desalinization and rationing regardless of the climate simply because the aquifer is overdrawn.

You are right. The fertile farms in the San Juaquin valley and the other place depended on water from the Sacramento river has been turned into one giant dust bowl, all because of the minnow. Has any one ever figured out why the EPA did this. I have an opinion on why they did this. Could it be that the people in those areas weren’t voting the “CORRECT” way?
