Please excuse just a bit of self defense / service on the DeeDee incident. As you may recall, I was gobsmacked when you related it to me.

I had left your bedside and returned home. But, later that night, a nagging feeling would not go away; so I returned. Things had quietened down, as they do late in the night and I had a conversation with DeeDee.

She assured, I say ASSURED me, that she understood your condition and that she was going to camp out right at your doorway and maybe even that her ESP would instantly communicate your wishes and even whims to her which would be instantly obeyed. Specifically with the ice chips.

You well know that I am a not bad judge of character; but she showed that “not bad” can be dead wrong.

But, Bob done told us about that “Man of Peace” didn’t he?

Glad to hear you are recovering! Collapsed on Jan 19, septic shock from UTI. EMT's say BP fell to something like 40. Dead. Cardiac arrest. And again. And again. Dead, dead, dead. No bright tunnel of light, no golden escalator with old Fleetwood Mac mix tapes, no exclusive book and movie rights. I even forgot that I'd promised, if I were ever in dramatic straits, to ask for the intercession of Elizabeth Anscombe, one of God's noblewomen, who just needs a teeny-tiny documentable miracle in order to be beatified. I even blew THAT. I wasn't only nearly dead, I was really most sincerely dead.

I am not going if there is no FMac. Stevie is a witch after all!

It is not uncommon in nursing to forget that the patients are human beings, and start seeing them as “units of work”.

The result is that YOU are placing additional work requirements on her, that exceed the written minimums.

This result won’t get better with Obamacare driving away doctors and a greater workload being placed on nurses.
