Looking for input on a good 22LR handgun, preferably a revolver [so as I don't have to hunt down brass for the local constabulary, post use].
I'd also ask y'all for any "barrel length / configuration" you think might support my home-defense needs.

I was gonna say, there’s nothing to it. You have to learn how to get the hammer strut positioned before seating the takedown latch, but other than making sure the firing pin stop stays in the bolt, it’s quickly mastered. Someone called it a Chinese puzzle, but a real one of those is a C96 Broomhandle Mauser, an amazing design to break down, how it all fits together so intricately.

This is far and away the best .22 revolver available anywhere.

The best shots on our pistol team could score 295 out of 300, where the ten ring was about the size of a quarter, if I recall. At 50 feet.
Flip it upside down to reassemble. The little flipper doo-hicky inside has to flip down by gravity to hit the spring hole thingy.
There is the brass factor, no doubt.
Taking apart is easy. Putting back together is tricky, but easy after you learn the trick (revealed at #48).

That seems to be the bugaboo for most people. Hold the gun barrel up at the right angle and gravity does it for you.
Then I must have the early stages of Parkinsons disease...
If you don’t mind a single action, with a Ruger you get both .22lr and .22 mag cylinders.
In a lurch you can shoot .22lr out of a mag cylinder but the cases will split.
In the tubular receiver, the little dangling item must fit into the spring mechanism in the thing that pulls out of the grip. The only way to get them to match is to hold it all upside down as you press the grip/spring mechanism. Then the little flippy do-hickey will find the spring hole. It’s the only way. Once you know the trick and do it a few times it’s easy.
In High school a young lady a few grades behind me decided to commit suicide with a 22 pistol. It entered the skull over her right ear, moved forward and bounced off the interior cranium. She lived, her personality changed becoming less shy and depressed, but she was a fully functioning individual with no disabilities.
I’m not saying a .22 can’t be used as a defensive weapon, but I would not use it as my personal go to caliber.

Why not get one made by the masters of engineering, the Germans! I suggest a RG-22, an EIG .22, or an IMP 22(Imperial Metal Works).
In a pinch, an Harrington Richardson or an Iver Johnson revolver will do.
