Yea, but deep in the bowels of some concrete government hive there’ll be a worker bee that loses it’s purpose if it can’t promulgate and enforce edicts against this instance of peoples annoying tendency to do what they’d like...

Having lived in both worlds I would say it is the hard work.

Given your experience, what would you estimate the chances are of spending a day loading and dragging a manure spreader around a pasture and not ingesting some cow feces in the process?

In part that is true - Throwing hay bales will do far more for you than what you get at the gym... but I was pointing to the food - farm kids eat real food, straight from the ground. WAY more nutrition. That's why they have the energy to do all that work.

For the first time in some years, I will finally have a garden in this year, and I really can't wait. The food is SO much better than what I have to buy in the store. Already using farm bought eggs (and raw milk) - I hate them pale-yolked things that pass for eggs in the store - Once the garden is there, I will be raising my own chickens too (need the garden waste to feed the chickens).

I too lived in both worlds. The city made me sick. Literally stressed out, fat and ill. I am going back to what works, and the closer I get, the better I feel.

We drank raw milk as kids. One of the best things was the layer of cream that would rise to the surface! We skim it off and make our own butter or use it for ice cream. The only time we got sick was when we ate way too much.

tasted like cow poop

Out of curiosity, how would you know what cow poop tastes like unless you’ve eaten it before?

I rarely ever drink milk anymore.

I agree with most of what you wrote. Not the part about kids, though. And I think the notion that raw milk is unsafe for children is the camel nose under the tent. There are some in the medical establishment who want to arrests parents for child abuse if they give their kids raw milk.

I posted the following to FR in 2012 here. My daughter is now 10 and is still asthma free.

Let me tell you a story about raw milk. Two years ago, my five year old daughter had an asthma attack. She couldn't speak and could barely breathe. It was terrifying. We rushed her to the ER. She ended up spending two days in the hospital.

When she got out, we spoke to our pediatrician. He wanted to put her on daily medication. This medicine would not heal her, it would just manage the asthma. Even though daily meds for a five year old seemed wrong to me, we did it. The down side, besides pumping her full of drugs, was that it made her agitated. She started wetting her pants. She was upset much of the time. This was heartbreaking.

My wife started doing research on line. She had already developed an interest in whole foods (not the store). She found articles about raw milk and asthma and allergies.

In late Summer of 2010, we started buying raw milk for the entire family including my 5 year old. This required a 3 hour round trip to PA every two weeks since the sale of raw milk is illegal in MD. Note, it is not illegal to buy it in PA and bring it into MD for personal use so we were not breaking the law.

Soon after starting her on raw milk and also limiting her wheat intake, we took her off her meds. In the past year and a half, she has not had an asthma attack and I could count the number of nebulizer treatments on one hand.

This result is nothing short of miraculous. Since August of 2010, my wife and I have learned much more about the benefits of raw milk and it is truly astounding. It is also astounding to realize that there is a concerted effort by the Federal government to shut down raw milk production and consumption. I have to believe this is due to the efforts of K Street lobbyists. Note, this is not a conservative/liberal issue. It is a matter of freedom and liberty.

Well you will obviously inhale a bit. The smell is horrendous. The longer it sits in the tank the worse it gets by the way (it ferments).

Yes it is unavoidable that you will ingest some because it is airborne. But it also true that you unavoidably ingest human feces every time you use the toilet. Microscopic particulates of feces become airborne every time you pass gas.

Sorry but this is one of the unpleasant facts of life.

My sister and I went to a preschool in the late 1960’s where raw milk, from a nearby dairy, and Ritz crackers were our snack every day. Yes, it is something I remember to this day, the creaminess and richness.

[ I agree, Pete. I also think that many people, millions, probably, are so skeptical of anything tainted by “government” that they are going in the extreme opposite direction. ]

This is the real danger, because the government supposedly wants to “help us out” and be our “parent” they get to the point where they feel they have to “lie to us in order to help us out” which drives a self sustaining cycle of mistrust that grows every year between the citizens and the government.

The more government grows the worse this gets until you get to the point where complete wacho job outliers start sounding reasonable because the government is abusing the people’s trust on a regular basis.

This is why one really has to start worry when people like Alex Jones start sounding reasonable, you know that government has pushed too far. People like Jones are not the cause of such mistrust between the people and the government, instead their success is a SYMPTOM of it.

Sorry but this is one of the unpleasant facts of life.

Unpleasant though it may be, it also means that by virtue of your work on the farm, you've been exposed to it, and your immune system is conditioned to expect and deal with it.

Bureaucratic "one size fits all" policies suck, because "one size" doesn't fit all.

Great response. One of the primary purposes for pasteurization now is so the farms no longer have to worry about cleanliness. They allow the pasteurization do the cleaning.....Have seen cows with mastitis milked and collected with the rest of the milk. Eventually the pink milk(.blood.) will be diluted enough to where you no longer see the off-color in the large tank.
The pasteurization will kill any bacteria, so now you don’t have to worry about fecal matter, pus, blood, etc. getting in the milk.
We get all of our raw, organic right from the cow. Cleanliness of the cow is of primary importance. Bad milk is dumped.

More “settled science.”

My kids drink raw goat milk, and they’re doing fine. We clean the teats before milking the goat. Not a difficult concept.

Glad to hear your kids are getting real milk - the way God made it!

I grew up on real milk from our Jersey cow. After years of storebought stuff, I’m now “lactose intolerant” - meaning that the only milk suited to my body’s digestion is real, unpasteurized milk (which I can’t get very often.)

Pasteurization was the industrial solution to the problem of industrialized milk. What it did (does) was save people from a problem introduced by the milk industry.
