LOS ANGELES Despite being Friday night's most-watched program, "Blue Bloods," which averages 13.69 million viewers, doesn't get the ink from the critics that other shows do, and series star Tom Selleck, who plays Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, doesn't understand the reason.
"The work on the show is superb," Selleck tells FOX411.com. "It is truly an adult drama. I have no idea why. I think that kind of perception is fostered by people who haven't really seen it. I say that we are as good as any dramatic show on television."
This Friday, March 13, "Blue Bloods" airs an episode that Selleck feels is especially good, so much so that he decided to publicize it. In it, Frank helps a woman whose life he saved when she was only 6 years old meet the man who killed her father, mother and brother through a prison program called Restorative Justice. Frank has been very protective of Sarah (Amelia Rose Blaire) ever since they met, and he is about to walk her down the aisle when she receives a letter from the murderer.

New York police drama, the Naked City in the late 50s is probably the very best of the lot.
D’oh! Should’a thought of that....
;-)
“Ive never even seen it, . . . “
Spoken like a true blue member of Free Republic.
Great family show.
I started watching it in reruns. Great show. I’m catching up now.
I like the show. I recently re-started watching it and it is especially poignant now given the real tension between DeBlasio and the NY police department.
How many episodes feature police officers shooting family dogs?
We pulled the plug on it as soon as it bowed to the homosexual “god,” participating in that evil indoctrination.
I’ve watched the show from the beginning. I’m impressed that it’s lasted as long as it has because it promotes family values, prayer, honesty, and integrity. There’s been times I’ve ended up with tears in my eyes during the episodes that end with the family sitting around the Sunday dinner table.
I got rid of cable last year. One of the channels we can get with our antenna is ION. Happened onto Blue Bloods which was and does have reruns one entire day and evening during the week. Best show we’ve seen in a long time. Even received a five star rating from my grandson.
We have found if there is generally anything worth watching it is on ION - very, very rarely watch any of the alphabet channels and our local FOX station is too far left leaning.
The plots require you to suspend your relationship with reality. Still, there are some great characters. I particularly like the dynamic between Jamie and Eddie. Lt Gormly and DPI Moore are good too.
I’d prefer they keep the little elf Nicky quiet.
Selleck’s a political conservative.
End of story.
I watched this show for about 4 minutes. When they called Selleck “Commissioner” yet showed him wearing a uniform, I turned it off never to return.
It’s equivalent to Duck Dynasty... there are guns (or at least talk of guns), family that sticks together, prayer and positive displays of faith, humor, and serious issues, too.
They’re the same show - just one set in Louisiana, and one in New York.
Best drama on TV. Excellent story lines, good plots, great family relationships.
The Greatest Single TV Show In All Recorded History (with the possible exception of "Captain Kangaroo") begins its new season on 4/4!
I watched the first couple of seasons faithfully. Then something started to bug me about the show. I finally realized it was the character Danny. This character is everything a cop should not be. Just the attitude, and operating outside of the law. Haven’t watched it much, since. Too bad because except for him. I really liked the show.
