New York public-school students caught stealing, doing drugs or even attacking someone can avoid suspension under new “progressive” discipline rules adopted this month.

Most likely, they will be sent to a talking circle instead, where they can discuss their feelings.

Just another way Obama is destroying America. Just 2 days ago, I wanted to exit the bus I was riding to school. A black girl was blocking the aisle. I said, "Excuse me!" twice, and still she did not move. I had to shove my way past her in order to get off the bus. She then got off the bus as well---and shoved me, calling me a b__ch. This is your typical urban black student now. We will surely be paying for her room at the Grey Bar Inn soon enough.

It's only fair. After all, teachers who do the same things aren't fired. They may be sent to the "rubber room", though.

I believe it is Minneapolis where the rule is you are NOT ALLOWED to discipline black youths. Must be a plan to create even more criminals and Mike Brown, Trayvon Martin types.

Another thing that’s making schools less safe is an unintended consequence of a reform. That would be schools being evaluated in part by rate of attendance and graduation rates. They’re keeping undesirables around to boost those numbers.

Bookmarking this one. I’m in Los Angeles, and yes, we’re seeing it too. My students are mostly Latino, but they have no fear of mouthing off to anyone, including our very tall, fairly distinguished looking African American principal. Latino students can be startlingly racist, and delight in calling blacks “Chimpanzees” and muttering “fried chicken” every time they see one. Black Americans may find this soft approach backfires badly on them in the majority Latino communities.

Thanks. I’ve read some of your other experiences inside the NYC school system, stay safe.

In Portland, if you are the right race, you won’t be suspended or expelled no matter what you do.

Wait just a minute. It looks like these are inner-city black schools. Blacks only make up about 13-14% of the population. Of that 13-14%, a maximum of 25% are in these inner city schools. We are talking about a small minority of a small minority, yet just as in the 1960’s, the media takes the worst of the worst of the black population and tries to make it look like the norm.

Then they think we’re all racist because they believe that we believe all blacks are exactly what they portray all black Americans to be.

I’m sick and tired of it. And it’s time we start calling them on it.

All this is is the fruits of the welfare system, exactly what the Democrats were deliberately cultivating to perpetuate racism ad infinitum.

School officials are too busy using zero-tolerance to go after perps who nibble Pop-Tarts into the shapes of pistols, or make gun shapes with their fingers, or a student leaving a butter knife in his parked, locked vehicle in the school parking lot.

It was just a handful of years ago our last child graduated from public high school. It was a nice conservative school though was headed in the wrong direction the last couple years. So very glad they graduated when they did or they’d be homeschooled today.

The worst classroom I ever set foot in was the ESL class full of Hispanic girls. Talk about attitude and mouth. Zero respect for anyone. Why they were in ESL was anyone’s guess because they spoke perfect English but the school gets $$$$ for ELS so why not. And it gets them out of another teacher’s hair for an hour.

Time to goggle John Derbyshire’s “The Talk: Non-Black Version.”

I have seen this type of thing, too. White kids generally avoid blacks when they have a chance, but Hispanic kids are much more likely to stand their ground and to even try to provoke a response.

Anyone who thinks public schools are socially integrated needs to visit one during lunchtime. In cafeterias, things are very tribal. Whites with whites, blacks with blacks, Hispanics with Hispanics.

There are variations, of course. Hispanics and Asians will hang with whites if there aren't enough of them in a smaller school to have their own group.

The only place I've seen real integration is with sports teams, and that lasts only for the duration of the practice or game. Afterwards, they go their separate ways.

Having said that, interracial dating was quite a local trend recently, but appears to be dying out. Not saying it's right, but it is what happens... white girls pay an enormous social cost after having dated a black boy. I've learned through conversations with former students that a "boycott" or shunning of these girls can follow them for a very long time.

My Filipino bud who’s in my circle is sending his daughter back to the Philippines to continue her studies. In her school, the pc-ness was nauseating.

The flag ceremony starts in spanish with no English TL for the rest of the Asian students. There’s no such thing as ‘top students’ as everyone should be “equal” and no one can stand when you have the answer to the teacher’s question as it will “insult” the stupid kids in the class.

It was explained that in the Phil, everyone has a school uniform from kindergarten to grade to high school, very structured and discilpines and is the total reverse of American p[ublic HS. Everyone competes in each class for top honors and pc-ness is non-existent. You know it’s bad when a parent is sending his/her kid to a 3rd world country for better schooling...

They get placed in the ESL class simply because of a Spanish surname. I worked with one person at one engineering company, last name Rodriguez, who spoke perfect English but did not understand Spanish. She described how she was placed in an ESL class simply because of her last name.

That really depends where you grow up and that’s not the case everywhere and I did not even see that when I went to school in fact most of my friends were mostly non-black/mixed for they were like me culture wise, and as person who has been around I never even heard of any of my dates suffering because they dated me and even met the family on occasion, again no issue, maybe you live in an different area, dunno, but its not the case everywhere.

“She described how she was placed in an ESL class simply because of her last name.”

Years ago a similar scandal was uncovered in the NYC public school system; the ESL students brought more money to the schools. The SHTF when the parents refused to accept it (realizing their children were simply being groomed to work as domestics for the 1%).

I graduated in 1982 from a school in East TN.

The mentality there was Jocks and Freaks. We had one main Principal and 4 vice Principals.

It was a different time. Simple rules, be on time and pass your class. It would seem these days kids have no idea of a life after school and choose prison. We had smoking areas and could leave grounds.

I wonder if making school a prison gets the prison mentality?

If you don’t pass your classes you don’t get a job.

I think that is gone.

Yes. I've noticed that at the middle school level, there's more integration, but as the same kids reach high school, black kids start peeling away and isolating themselves from the others. So do Asians. We have no white kids, so I don't know.

And yes, I have also heard that once a white girl dates a black guy, white boys don't want much to do with her.

You know it’s bad when a parent is sending his/her kid to a 3rd world country for better schooling...

When we get Asian and Filipino students, they are uniformly more advanced than the local population. I mean, light years beyond them in attitude, work ethic, organization, attention span, skills, intelligence... (oops, not supposed to say "intelligence" anymore. It's a no-no word. Almost as offensive as the N-word.)

These poor kids always spend the first few months kind of looking around like "We left my country for THIS?" It's really sad.
