Low vitamin D levels, depression linked in young women, new study shows
Oregon State University / Science Daily ^ | March 18, 2015 | David Kerr

A new study from Oregon State University suggests there is a relationship between low levels of vitamin D and depression in otherwise healthy young women.

OSU researchers found that young women with lower levels of vitamin D were more likely to have clinically significant depressive symptoms over the course of a five-week study, lead author David Kerr said. The results were consistent even when researchers took into account other possible explanations, such as time of year, exercise and time spent outside.

"Depression has multiple, powerful causes and if vitamin D is part of the picture, it is just a small part," said Kerr, an associate professor in the School of Psychological Science at OSU. "But given how many people are affected by depression, any little inroad we can find could have an important impact on public health."

Drink fortified whole milk and stop all the sunscreen unless you’re actually laying in the sun.

meh- I had severe low D level, mine was 9- went on suppliments, got it back to where it supposed to be, and guess what? Never felt ANY difference- no more energy, happiness, good mood, strength- nothing, everything just remained the same-

Most US citizens are deficient in most minerals and most vitamins.

If you are deficient, just getting it back up to normal doesn’t mean you’ve taken enough to do any real long term repair. You run a car a long time with low oil and things get damaged, just putting the oil level to normal won’t fix the damage. It’s not a perfect analogy because oil can’t fix mechanical damage, but you get the general point.

If you take the wrong form you won’t get nearly the same benefit. D3 is 10x better absorbed than D2. (They put D2 in milk.)

Besides if you want energy or to feel more energetic, D is okay for that, (D3, not D2), but the B vitamins - specifically B12 and B6 are excellent for energy. There are also great herbs like Echinacea and Ginseng for energy.

Forgot, for energy, minerals that are important are zinc, selenium, magnesium, and chromium.

I had hear5d that when I was young- and perhaps that will be part of it too- but I think, in the end times, energy will be used as a weapon against us- oil prices will skyrocket (Remember O said that under his ‘leadership’ energy prices will ‘necessarily rise’, and he has said he wants to see 8 dollar a gallon gasoline)

I think personally that Israel’s massive oil find will be a shock to those who are controlling energy prices, and they will scramble to partner with Israel and try to manipulate supply and demand in order to keep their control of energy prices

This is just a personal feeling- But I believe that this is what this whole ‘climate change’ crap is about- driving up energy prices to where people can’t afford it- making the people dependent on the government and the energies such as oil and gas will be handed out as incentives- used as a ‘carrot and stick’ - I think energy sources will be more valuable than money at that time because the government will use it to control the states- “Either agree with our executive orders, or prepare to lose you monthly allotment of oil and gas” type of thing

Russia has been for many decades, taking control of places with oil and gasoline- (and when Israel finds her deposites, Russia will be furious because it will undermine Russia’s monopoly on the markets at that time

Just a work in progress theory-

[[If you are deficient, just getting it back up to normal doesn’t mean you’ve taken enough to do any real long term repair.]]

That was a year ago- and I actually got too much of it- and had to stop taking it- I’ve been normal levels since-

[[D3 is 10x better absorbed than D2.]]

Well there is some debate- studies show even D2 will bring levels back to where they need to be- however, D3 does work faster and more efficiently- which is what /I was on because my level was so low- they felt there was some condition like parathyroid or gall stone issues that was causing this massive deficiency, but after many tests, the couldn’t find what was causing it, and levels leveled off-

[[Besides if you want energy or to feel more energetic, D is okay for that, (D3, not D2), but the B vitamins - specifically B12 and B6 are excellent for energy. There are also great herbs like Echinacea and Ginseng for energy]]

I’ve got some health issues that have zapped my strength- Crohn’s, sleep apnea, asthma, and possibly Chronic fatigue or some condition which causes similar symptoms to Chronic fatigue- Believe me, I’ve wasted tons of money on vitimins, minerals, herbs, nutrients, health drinks etc- I even had a pituitary tomor removed that was causing acromegaly, which at that time I had hoped was the cause of my weakness- but nothing changed strength-wise after the surgery-

Meh- after 30 years of trying unsuccessfully to combat it- I’ve just accepted it- I’m one of htose people whos’ labs always come back ‘normal’ (except for the known problems like the Crohn’s, asthma etc)- and docs just don’t know what is causing the weakness, so they slap a ‘catchall’ label like Chronic fatigue on me because they don’t know what might be causing it- Been a frustrating rough 30+ years, so now I’m just gonna accept it and relax a bit

One thing I didn’t mention is that you need to take vitamin K2 along with D, so that you don’t get too much of D. Most folks aren’t made aware of this.

Your pituitary tumor is a major factor in your health problems. The pituitary affects so many other glands so your hormone levels are probably all out of whack.

If the pituitary is underperforming your growth hormones will be affected, sex hormones (testosterone/energy) will be affected, your thyroid will be affected which will make you feel tired and weak, and your adrenals will be affected and that will make you feel like you have poor energy.

And you will, because the pituitary is malfunctioning.

Um...a new study? Jesus, low Vitamin D levels have been linked to depression for a while now. After baking in the sun of the Permian Basin for most of 2012, I returned to the snow and gloom of winter in NW PA. I tied off with a naturopafh and she found that my habit of self-medicating with massive amounts of coffee and unfiltered cigarettes was textbook compromised ardrenal function. I had already started myself on Cod Liver Oil daily for the Vitamin D.

Well again, I’ve had them all checked and rechecked (had to after the operation for a couple of years) and they all got back to normal- all levels are fine now- like I said- Docs just shrug when I ask why I’m so exhausted and painful muscles- and dump their diagnosis onto something obscure like Chronic Fatigue-

I personally believe that there is a problem with the way my body turns food into energy- because I just don’t get enough energy to keep me going, and what little I have I can burn through very quickly and get really run down with very little exertion- just walking say 1 mile or thereabouts is enough to weaken me further for a couple of days-

I was kinda hoping it was something simple like thyroid which could be corrected with meds, but all tests show normal

No I wasn’t aware of that- thanks for the info- I’ll keep that in mind if I get low again

Interesting about your food/energy statement.

Have you considered that your gi tract may be lacking enough digestive enzymes and probiotics? As people age they produce less digestive enzymes so food isn’t broken down as much and you get less energy. Also if you’ve had antibiotics your gut bacteria is probably out of whack unless you’ve done a good job replenishing it with probiotic good bacteria.

You might also be a good candidate for cold laser therapy for your muscle pain/body pain.
