WASHINGTON — When White House chief pastry chef Bill Yosses left the executive mansion last summer, the president publicly mourned the loss of “the crust master’s” mysteriously addictive pies. And when the first family’s personal chef and pal, Sam Kass, left in December, Michelle Obama heaped praise on Kass’ “extraordinary legacy of progress” in an official White House statement.
But the recent exit of head florist Laura Dowling, who’d been in the job since 2009, has been a much quieter affair. So hush-hush, in fact, that most outside of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. knew nothing about it. There’s still no official comment on why Dowling is no longer at the White House, but according to a source with close ties to current residence staffers, she was escorted from the building on Feb. 13.
The East Wing initially confirmed via a very brief email that “Laura left her position earlier this year” but provided no further details. Later, the first lady’s office (not quoting the first lady specifically, mind you) sent this enhanced statement:
“As Chief Florist, Laura Dowling and her team treated guests of the White House to their beautiful floral arrangements. Ms. Dowling’s creations were always lively and colorful, reflecting not only the season but the unique and historic rooms which they graced. No two arrangements were ever the same and each one left guests with a lasting impression of the elegance and history of the People’s House. We are grateful for her contribution over the years and wish her well”

The few probably has to do with Michelle Obama.
The scent of flowers can only mask so much stench.
Michelle is personally offended with any floral arrangement that contains white flowers.
I have a sneaky suspicion you hit the nail on the head.
Probably more to it.... but maybe she is one of those type people that just don’t like alot of hype around her name. Maybe she just wants to quietly move on without a big stink.
Some people (like myself) don’t like alot of attention and don’t like to be seen.

i read this article earlier in the day and thot what a waste of space. it does nothing beyond repeating the obvious. no depth. no detail. no intrigue. i mean with the Clintons you found out they had guys who ran around the campaign trail for them in chicken suits handling top secret files for no apparent reason...
this reporterette has no future if she can’t even make the jump from rumor to gossip. go back to 6th grade hall lockers and repeat.

Starting to see FB posts from people who hung around the clubs down at Revere Beach just outside of Boston. This was 1989 when I played in hair bands. It seems that a Harvard Law School student living in Somerville who was a beach bum during the Summer and liked a white powder is jogging some memories. They were surprised that “Pumpkinhead” liked girls when he resurfaced in Boston at the DNCC. Of course it could not have been “you know who’. Because he never hung around anywhere at anytime no matter where he was at Occidental...Columbia....Harvard....
Apart from cooking for foreign leaders/diplomats why do we need a White House “chef”? How difficult can it be to cook a couple of pieces of chicken (or steak),baked potatoes and a vegetable?

Probably not. The Clintons canned the Travel Office in order to stear lucrative contracts to their cronies (Bloodworth Thommassons, iirc).
This is more like the Clintons canning that WH Usher. Who either saw something he wasn’t supposed to see (I remember the various rumors) or did somthing that the incredibly shallow and petty First Lady found objectionable.
