My Encounter with a Democrat about Ted Cruz and The Tea Party
Me | 03-25-2015 | Me

Posted on 03/25/2015 7:07:07 PM PDT by Nowhere Man

I work in a major department store west of the Pittsburgh area and I sold some jewelry to a lady who was buying it foe her grandaughter's tea party. Just to make conversation, I referenced the Tea Party political group. She said how bad they were and Ted Cruz is "too Christian." I asked, "what do you mean by that?" She said, "I'm Catholic and liberal," and I replied, "hopefully if him or someone like him was elected, we can start to fix the damage of the last 7 years." She didn't like it.

People like that drive me nuts. I kept hearing the voice of my late mother, "how can people be so da@# dumb?" I guess she is the "typical Pittsburgh Democrat" who would vote for Democrats, even for Satan, if he ran Democrat. Several thoughts ran into my mind.

First off, Catholics are Christians, many are here of course and we all do not like the way the country is headed. I wonder about the Pope's politics at times, but that's for another time. Also, it pains me to see people who have strong religious beliefs picked on like that. Religion does not matter to me, as long as there are no human or animal sacrifices and that the religion does not preach "kill thy neighbor." However since she degraded Christians with strong religious beliefs, it rubbed me the wrong way plus it adds to the climate of anti-Christian and anti-Semitic that is going on today.

I do have the same beliefs personally although I do admit, I'm libertarian, heck, I consider myself a "South Park libertarian/conservative." Sometimes I call myself a "Barry Goldwater type," I know with some here, I've gotten into debates and yes, we do not always agree, but that's life. I just question the role of government in many moral matters, it should be left to the States, locals and the people themselves to regulate themselves as the case may be. Like Glenn Beck puts it, marriage is not the place of government but the people themselves and what religious beliefs they have.

I just shook my head thinking about where "sheeple" like that vote. They do not know or care that the Democrats of today are so far down the rabbit hole that in comparison, Hubert Humphrey would look conservative. FDR is long gone.

You should have said... “Your poor grandchild”...when she looked at you with a funny look you could have said....”selfish people are ensuring she lives in a 3rd world country.”

I could have but I wisely "cut bait." Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut. Well, I will in the future as many here said.

Yeah, as many pointed out to me, you got to be careful about crossing lines. Seeing what I read here I most likely did so today. I’ll be truthful, most likely I have Asperger’s (when I was tested as a kid, I was on the autism spectrum) so I have to be doubly careful because I know every once in a while, I might cross over a line and not know it.

Well I live EAST of Pittsburgh, Westmoreland County, and I’m pretty sure CRUZ will do pretty good out here on the western of “Alabama PA.”

Nowhere Man—PLZ refrain from discussing politics w/customers—in the ObamaEconomy jobs are hard to come by—and NO political discussion is worth risking employment over.

My family member has this as well...it’s especially difficult in the “political correct” society we are in for those who have to develop coping techniques.

The up side is you did identify a Liberal just by how they spoke and that’s a good thing. Actually most people can’t until they’re well into conversation.

I had a somewhat similar encounter with some intolerant lib jerk in the waiting room of a car dealership the other day while my car was getting serviced. They had Fox news playing on the TV and this girl was practically arguing with the TV over just about everything they were saying on the show. Finally, this older woman asked her if she could tone it down a bit as she was trying to listen to it. The girl did for a while but ramped it right back up within about 10 minutes.

Finally she gets up and walks out of the room, we all kind of look at each other with a look of relief. A few minutes goes by and she comes back in, stands right in the middle of the room and asks if she can change the channel to something else. There was seven of us there, two said they didn't care and four of us said we were happy watching the news. So she said "fine" and stomped off out of the room like my daughter would do occasionally when she was a teen.

She comes back in about a minute later with one of the sales guys and starts whining that she's offended by FOX news and we won't let her change the channel and Fox news lies and...........................................bla bla bla bla bla. I looked at the shell shocked sales guy and smiled and you could see he just realized he was lead into a meat grinder, so he smartly said he would get a manager and off he went. Right after that, they called my name to pick up my car. I was actually kind of bummed as I wanted to stay and watch more of the show--and not the one on TV, LOL.

The further west you go in our country the more conservative people are...and sane!

In Butler County the rural areas are pretty much for Cruz but you get closer to Erie and Pittsburgh and they go liberal.

Yours was the best thread I’ve read so far today. I give you tons of credit for your honesty and humility. And, most especially, for asking for help. I’m sure you got more than you expected. Over and over and over. Stay cool brother

Oh that’s too funny !!...LOLOL...But oh so typical.
Good read thanks for sharing. I enjoyed that!

Ya know it is much harder to talk freely even in a casual environment anymore....Obama has split this country and created such intolerance for one another that it’s not long before tempers flair...and it’s ALWAYS a liberal who gets his “feelings” hurt first.

At any rate...good story!

In Germany, people talk politics ALL the time. We used to in NY, among the Irish opinionated relatives who were half and half, dem and GOP, depending, honestly, on their livelihood, statistically speaking.

That was before birth control and legalized abortion.

Their thinking trickled down to what you see in this lady’s thinking.

Actually, from what I’ve seen, people, esp in the northeast, who were baptized and received the sacraments in the Catholic Church, think that, because they went through 12 or so years of Catholic school or upbringing, that they know Church teaching.

They do not. It used to be that the clergy would brief them at Mass, but no. The clergy generally does not brief them on anything to do with the major issue, and that is, birth control and abortion. It is major for many reasons, but, in particular, because the democrat party has taken it on, and usurped the clergy on this matter, taking the place of the clergy and even causing half of catholics to turn to them as a religion.

Get that? Half of Catholics, (half of Catholics vote democrat) think that the Democrat party take the place of the Church. The Democrats are the ones who care for the poor, the blacks and minorities, the children, the immigrants who are just good people trying to make a life, and women, who are otherwise oppressed by the republican monopoly money mogul taking away their means for subsistence, their dignity and their freedom.

There is no guidance among these catholics. They do not know their faith, do not own or consult the Catechism, they don’t go to confession, do not have an acquaintanceship with their conscience as a result, as that is what they are called to do (no, other religions are not called to do this)

Plus, they are stuck in the politics of fifty years ago, the democrats of the sixties, descended from Truman, to Kennedy.

Abortion, the icon of the party, and all it’s phony women’s rights power, does not affect them. They don’t know any one who has had an abortion, but they do. No one who has had an abortion talks about it in real terms, why it causes them depression, disassociation from their families, etc.

They don’t realize that there are one and a half million abortions every year for forty years, and that the dems are the champions of this.

They claim Catholicism because, if abortion were bad, if the dems were awful and anti-Catholic, they’d hear about it at Mass.

But they do not.

The Catechism is clear. If they’d go to mass daily and read along with the three readings from the bible every day, they would not only get the teaching, they’d get the grace to open their minds to the truth.

No the Church does not choose party lines, and the most reverent of clergy won’t, but they’ll tell anyone that voting for a pro abortion candidate when there is an alternative, is a sin, to be avoided and or confessed and repented.

But people like your friend, there, do not hear any of this.

It’s the oppressive culture, and it has to be repelled. She doesn’t know that.

I know, is some ways, it is like it was just prior to the Civil War.

Yep....the entire world is in a huge shift and Obama’s pretty much a cause of most of it. But then we know he doesn’t care...he’s on the mission he was given to do and nobody’s going to stop this til he’s out.

That sure didn't work out for $tarbuck$.
