PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A 4-year-old girl has grabbed her purple raincoat, slipped out of her house at 3 a.m. and hopped a Philadelphia bus in search of a snack.

Bus driver Harlan Jenifer says the girl swung her legs in a seat as she chanted, “All I want is a slushie.”

When I was 8 I joined the Boys Club. It was about a mile from home. Evening hours were 6 to 9, and after dinner I would make my way to the club and hang out until it closed and walked home. Never gave it a thought. Today the busy bodies from social services would be arresting my parents and put me in foster care.

Here's the Slushie girl:

She looks a lot like I did at that age. Scary.

At 4 or 5, I thought nothing of slipping out alone when no one was watching and going into the barn and curling up in the hay bales to listen to the birds nesting in the rafters, or wandering around by a creek looking for arrowheads and interesting rocks. It didn’t take long for my mom to know what places to look for me. My bro was doing the same thing at the same age, too.

One of my aunts said we were like the elephant child in Kipling’s story-we had insatiable curiosity-but that was in the mid-50’s, and in the middle of nowhere-not a big dangerous city...

My parents and other relatives would have been jailed, too-my cousins and I wandered all over 60+ acres populated with livestock and wild animals, carried guns at the appropriate age-10-11, used cans for target practice and even had a canoe to go up and down the creek with-not a nannie or nosy neighbor in sight...

Nosir. But I was something of a wanderer. I remember once inching out on a narrow shale ledge on a kind of stony headland fronting on Lake Erie. I was halfway across the ledge and it started breaking away under my feet. Both to my left and to my right. And below me, waves and rocks.

Somehow I scrambled back to safety: I don't know how but I suspect Guardian Angel action.

Never told my parents. Never told anyone about my adventures.

Four year old kids shouldn’t be having slushies. IMO.

Our daughter was quite like yours. She was about the same age when she started to climb out of her crib but she did not have the strength to get her bedroom door open so she would start banging on the door. After three or four times she realized we would put her back to bed so she then would just toddle over to her toy box and quietly play with her toys.

Only once did she find a way to get out of our sight in a store and she was caught by another customer/mom as she got to the next isle.

What a little sweetie!

Pretty resourceful little kid... I wonder what she became when she grew up?
