Denzel Washington is a two-time Oscar winner; however, he isn't afraid to speak out against liberal Hollywood and support his Christian faith. I read from the Bible every day, and I read my Daily Word, he told a reporter, adding that it was not difficult for him to grow up as the son of a preacher. He wasn't a taskmaster, but there were certain things you couldn't do, Washington said. He had his own church, and it was a long Sunday, because you had to be there all day. Everyone I grew up with didn't have a father, he continued. I had a father. My father was a decent man. He was a very spiritual man and a gentleman. Today Washington is a strong Christian, but at times, he struggled growing up. In his teens, Denzel became rebellious after attending church started to feel like a job. This settled in his 20s when he had a personal encounter with God that occurred in the same church Washington attends today. The minister was preaching, Just let it go, Washington recalled. I said, Im going to go with it. And I had this tremendous physical and spiritual experience. It did frighten me, he stated. I was slobbering, crying, sweating. My cheeks blew up. I was purging. It was too intense. Denzels experience led him to questions:
It almost drove me away. I called my mother, and she said I was being filled with the Holy Spirit. I was like, Does that mean I can never have wine again? Ever since, Washington is a proud Christian and has even considered becoming a preacher. A part of me still says, Maybe, Denzel, youre supposed to preach. Maybe youre still compromising, he said during an interview. Washington gave some advice to staying close to God: Put your slippers way under your bed so when you get up in the morning, you have to get on your knees to find them. And while youre down there, start your day with prayer. Ask for wisdom. Ask for understanding, he said. Dont aspire to make a living, aspire to make a difference.
Remember too, that Ronald Reagan kept his faith quietly. He was not loud or pushy with his faith, instead, leading by example, living his faith. In fact, I did not realize he was a Christian until years after his Presidency. That said, it comes from the fact that most Canadian politicians always seemed to be ‘Christian’ only at Easter and Christmas services. From that perspective, pols who attended church were merely paying lip service to Christ, including Americans. Prime examples being BJ Klintoon and O’Venal.
From what I’ve read of Denzel Washington, he is well known in Hollywierd for his faith and he will not take certain parts. In some cases, he has been known to make changes to scripts where the character is too evil unless, of course, the character receives his due at the end of the movie.
Very good actor. Cafeteria Christian at best.
Actually, it all came together when we discovered it was the Bible!
All right!
Liked him in “Flight”-very good movie about redemption and owning up to your misdeeds.
Just watched him in the recent new rental, “The Equalizer”. (based on the 80’s tv show) It was ok.
He was good in “Fallen”, a genuinely creepy supernatural horror movie.
Thanks for the ping.
The Book of Eli has to be top of my Denzel faves.
He was pretty cute in The Pelican Brief, too!
Yep, remember when he said he “ walked by faith, not by sight?”
Great advice.

Another dead give-away - the “book” was in Braille!
Definitely one of the best looking in Hollywood too. He can come preach to me any time.
Glad he is taking a stand. It takes guts.
We need to be asking, why can Christians no longer practice their lifestyle?????? As shops and products turn MORE Halal, which everyone understands is necessary for Muslims, why can’t Christians have the same respect????
Love his acting - he always seemed to be decent from the inside and now I understand why - when one accepts the holy spirit in his heart, it shows outwardly and people (especially believers) can sense it.
I took no pleasure in saying what I said.
I do not watch modern movies, but I did see him in one were he played a Football coach, wasn`t a bad movie.
Remember the Titans
Great movie, worth watching over and over.
that`s it
