A new study debunks the theory that melting permafrost in the Arctic region will release a “carbon bomb” that will cause catastrophic global warming.
“The data from our team’s syntheses don’t support the permafrost carbon bomb view,” A. David McGuire, a climate scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey and the Institute of Arctic Biology at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, said in a statement.
News reports have hyped up the study saying melting Arctic permafrost could release lots of carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere — only adding to worries that global warming will get out of control. Washington Post writer Chris Mooney remarked the study “basically confirm that we have a serious problem — if not necessarily a catastrophe — on our hands.”
But do we? The study actually suggests a “gradual, prolonged” release of greenhouse gases from thawing permafrost — meaning society has much more time to adapt to rising emissions from permafrost melt than scientists previously thought.
For years, scientists have been debating over how much warming would occur — and how fast — as greenhouse gases trapped in permafrost in the world’s polar regions are released into the atmosphere. Scientists have argue that permafrost melting was a “carbon bomb” that would be catastrophic for the climate.

I just got my greenhouse up. Growing twice as many vegetable carbon sinks as last year.
And I might double the size of my greenhouse when prices go down in a couple of months.

How long will David McGuire keep his job with the U.S. Climate Survey? How many more government grants will he get. I hope he’s ready to find a job somewhere else. Because his report is not what they were paying him for, I’m afraid.
“Catasphrophic” to these Chicken Littles means 0.5 degrees of warming after a century.
I always get a kick out of this type of story. A mile or two under the Antarctic ice cap are tree stumps. So too under Greenland’s glaciers.
If trees were growing in those places once, they may again...
And no amount of tax increases or EPA regulations will ever stop it.

But you are using an actual greenhouse. Greenhouses work by blocking convection. No gas can do that. The so-called “greenhouse gases” capture and re-emit (”reflect”) a very small fraction of infrared from the earth; less than half of that “reflected” energy heads back down to earth: the rest heads out into space.
None of these folks will believe the warmers again.
But! Butt! The temps have gone up by one hundredth of a degree! Not even close to the degree of error. Oh noes!
It is always a ‘bomb’ that is about to go off unless we do something drastic and right now. do not worry about the consequences because whatever emergency measures we take will be less harmful that the bomb going off. We can read the legislation after we pass it so we will know what it actually says. Emergency! Emergency! Emergency! (do you hear the sirens) Quick, act now we must protect our (pick appropriate noun) Children, women, aged, infirm, planet, polar bears, snail darters.
Every year we have another crisis that necessitate some kind of emergency action.
And all of them have been complete Bull Shit. And the libtards just keep scooping it up and peddling it to our politicians and institutions of higher intelligence.
