A North Carolina man faces a DUI charge after he failed a sobriety test and asked police officers at the scene of an accident what state he was in.
York police were called to a wreck near the intersection of South Congress Street and S.C. 321 around 10 p.m. Wednesday. They found James Macheron Goard, 41, of Mount Holly, N.C., lying on the ground next to his vehicle, which had struck a utility pole and knocked down several power lines, according to a police incident report.
Goard told the officers he was thrown from the vehicle and complained of back pain.
Once up and walking, Goard was reportedly unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol. When asked by the officer how much he had to drink, he reportedly said he had three beers.
Goard then asked the officer what state he was in. When told where he was, Goard reportedly wondered aloud how he got to South Carolina. The officer informed (Goard) he was not sure, the report stated.
The report doesnt say where Goard was coming from, but the driver said he was trying to get to Mount Holly, which is almost 30 miles away.
Goard reportedly failed a field sobriety test and was transported to the York Police Department.
“Whaaash th’ capitol?”
Did he ask the officer to “hold mah beer?”
Not a stupid question. Driving around the suburbs of Charlotte the line is not always clearly marked.
Unlucky for him he’s not a Kennedy and in Assachussets, otherwise he would have been sent on his way. “Watch for the other cars while you drive sir! Don’t worry, we’ll clean up the bodies here.”
You can tell you’re in South Carolina because the price of gas drops 20 cents.
The state of confusion, I would conjecture.
I have lived in this area my whole life, 2 miles fron NC/SC border.
If he is on 321 it is not hard to tell which state he’s in.
If he were on the backroads of York and Gaston counties, he could go in and out of each state numerous times.
32 cents where I got it yesterday.... BP off 321.
I have to drive a lot farther to get over the line.
the answer is “Police State”
LOL, true. I tell friends and relatives traveling south to fill up in Va and drive straight through NC.
I live near the border of Mississippi. You can tell you crossed into Mississippi and out of Louisiana when the convenient stores don’t all sell alcohol.
