7 Things Every American Needs To Know About Taxes
American Legislator ^ | 4-15-15 | Will Freeland

Today is tax day in America. As always, it features a lot of confusion with tax forms, some rushed trips to the post office and a whole lot of heartburn as taxpayers are reminded just how much they paid in taxes over the previous year. Despite the fact that every American constantly is affected by local, state and federal taxes, there is still a large number of Americans who don’t know about taxes. Here are seven things many every American should know about taxes.

1. Taxes Cost a Whole Lot

Taxes on all levels consume over a quarter of gross domestic product annually, which is roughly defined as the entire economic production of the nation in a given year. This totals in at $4.8 trillion dollars. It’s not a modest or trivial amount, as most taxpayers have known all too well. According to the Tax Foundation, the average American will work till April 24th to pay their share of taxes in 2015, a day the Tax Foundation rightly titles “Tax Freedom Day.” That means that the average American will work nearly 31 percent—just short of a third of a year—to pay their tax burden on all levels. Put differently, Americans spend more on average on taxes at all levels than food, clothing and housing combined.

Do you owe Federal taxes?

The VA takes years to pay benefits to US Taxpayer Veterans.

That’s right. YOU pay NOW.

The Federal government will pay when they get around to it.

What do you suppose would happen if those VA employees had to wait years for their pay?

Isn't something like 50% of Americans don't pay any taxes at all? *EVERYBODY* with an income of $500 or more should pay *something*...even if it's only $5.

*EVERYBODY* should have the joy of filing some version of 1040.

When our tax preparer submitted our taxes they were REJECTED because someone has already filed with OUR SSNs. SAME for one of our sons!!! We had to mail in the forms and check WITH COPIES of driver’s license AND social security card. Was informed by one person that it will probably take at least 6 months to straighten out... (I hope those who committed this fraud actually HAVE TO PAY what we owe ‘cause it is a huge amount.)

For the rich taxes are a business expense. Like all business expenses they are just passed along to the customer.
So not taxing the rich would do more to ease ‘income inequality’ than anything else the government could do LOL!
(But then we’d still have some ‘income inequality’ caused by hard work and ability. And that’s the kind that a democracy hates most.)

Illegals use hundreds of thousands of stolen American ID’s.

They’ve created a major industry built entirely on fraud.

The millions of illegals being 100% aided and abetted by the same government who’s taxing you to pay for them, thank you sincerely.

I never rush. I always extend, which takes about 4 minutes.

Then I do my taxes at my leisure.

Any refund will be small and not worth the stress. Any penalty will be the same.

One question though. If deficits don’t matter, why collect federal taxes at all?

Try to imagine about 45 million people doing that. Telling D.C. they’d simply had enough.
