2 pedestrians died in the past week during police chases here in the bay area. if ya have a license plate or good id,, why continue pursuit?
unless you have reason to believe a major crime has been committed.. how many will die? needlessly.
But they would know that there was a danger of injury or death to themselves or a bystander and then deadly force would be warranted. But now if there is a chance that there might be a chance of injury or death to the officer of bystander it's blow them away time.
I’m sure that’s true.
It’s good you aren’t an LEO. You wouldn’t survive long.
“I know hundreds of retired cops in their 60s and 70s and almost every one of them says the same thing-————”

They sure weren’t in my area in the 40s,50s,and 60’s. Lots of billy club use and no rights when being hassled.
The old timers usually don’t like the newcomers. Everything was better in “the good old days” according to them.
.
Chances are he was wanted for a crime of some kind. My father told me when I was about 10 or 12 to never run from a policeman and to always be respectful if a policeman stopped me.
I am a 75 year old woman and I have never committed a crime worse than speeding or getting a parking ticket so it never became an issue.
Unarmed? WTH does that have to do with anything?
The idiot ran. Plenty of unarmed thugs have been rightly killed over the years.
Sorry no sympathy for him—I side with the bootlickers this time.
Used be be a lot prisoners falling down stairs back in the day, too.
What makes the fact he had 3 kids warrant the mention in the title? Later in the article, I could see.
Did you look at the video? It seems pretty clear why the police felt compelled to shoot him. After a 20 minute high speed chase culminating with him hitting three other cars and injuring two people, inexplicably, he jumps out of the car and immediately starts reaching frantically in the backseat of the car for something. If I were a cop, I would have concluded that he was reaching for a weapon. The shooting appears fully justified based on the video.
“Used be be a lot prisoners falling down stairs back in the day, too.”
Yep,sure were.
.
I agree with all that you said, but you worked in LE when society was a bit saner perhaps?
These days evil reigns and I’m not making excuses for bad cops but it’s getting harder and harder to stay one step ahead of the bad guys.
20 years ago a Darren Wilson would never have even been questioned. Now everybody is underneath the microscope.
“Good question, but a better question was why was he shot if the police did not actually see a weapon”
My guess is that he wasn’t following directions. Do you think the Cops asked him to grab the umbrella out of the back seat after a high speed chase? Of course not, they told him to hit the ground / hand on the top of the car. He didn’t do it, reaching back into the car against directions is a death wish. He got his wish, end of story. Wise up.
Suicide by cop.
Yeah that’s what happens when I ASSume...We jump to conclusions way too early these days.
Everybody is on edge and sometimes tragedies happen. Maybe this is one of them? But I still wouldn’t have run.
And the water is NOT coming to a boil in this pot, either.
First, do not go on a high speed chase.
Second, but if you do..when you are pulled over do not make any sudden moves or reach for something without announcing it.
Finally, do not run.
not if you kept a bead on him at all times and thats what we’ll trained marksmen do...Woops most cops aint that.never mind

Link above says he had a warrant but doesn’t say for what. Not paying child support would be my first guess.
This guy was jumping all over the place. I’m not surprised he got shot, gun or no gun. It looks like he drops something when the shot him ...not sure though...
