The Apple Watch is Already Wiping the Floor with the Entire Smartwatch Market
Business Insider ^ | Thursday, April 16, 2015 | Rob Price

Posted on 04/16/2015 5:29:23 PM PDT by Star Traveler

The Apple Watch is on fire: KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that Apple's debut smartwatch has sold more than 2.3 million units since preorders opened, MacRumors reports.

Apple hasn't released any sales data on Apple Watch sales, and it most likely won't until the company's quarterly earnings report. But this 2.3 million figure echoes what others have estimated — the research company Slice believes there were about 1 million US preorders on launch day, for example.

Ming-Chi Kuo has a good track record on Apple: He was spot on with his predictions about the iPhone 5S, for example. If Kuo's figures are correct, Apple has — in a stroke — cornered the entire smartwatch market.

The Apple Watch's strong sales are bad news for Google and its Android Wear smartwatch operating system OS. According to Canalys, devices using Android Wear sold 720,000 units in 2014. Slice's figures suggested Apple was able to easily breeze past this figure in a single day. In doing so, Apple took away Google's one historical advantage, which Business Insider explained in a previous story:

The iPhone has always — with some truth — been considered the "rich man's phone." Apple customers tend to be better off than Android users and spend more on apps and in-app purchases. Accordingly, ad rates on iOS, Apple's operating system, are higher than on Google's OS.

This strong push is immediately going to make Apple's Watch OS an extremely attractive platform for developers looking to move into wearables, especially when coupled with the purchasing power of Apple consumers. And as this app ecosystem develops, it will make the Apple Watch even more attractive compared with other smartwatches, consolidating Apple's position further still.

Picture comprehension? Not that right there could tie you with West Virginia.

It could be comprehension, or reading skills or research capabilities or intuition or just plain common sense ... the bottom line is that Oklahoma had EVERY SINGLE COUNTY in the state, including the major metropolitan areas (which usually go left elsewhere) ... ALL against Obama! And that’s a better result than any other state including Texas ... :-) ...

Oklahoma also has open carry here, and a religious freedom law. Just those things by themselves shows a pretty smart electorate ... :-) ...

Not too bad for a nice quaint little place. It is just too bad it isn’t very big and have enough electoral votes, like Texas.

Y’all used to have a great football team in Norman too. What happened there?

I’m not a fan, so I couldn’t tell you one way or another.

But I’ll mention something about the Electoral College. The nice thing about what the founding fathers did was to weight the system to favor the small states, in order to offset the big states. That’s why Presidential candidates find themselves campaigning in the small states, because they are needed, and this is especially so with the GOP.

If it weren’t for the Electoral College, those candidates would only campaign in large states and large metro areas and leave everyone else out of the picture. I have to thank the founding fathers for making Oklahoma a significant factor in these elections!

Great, you get a gold star for your Friday social studies assignment. Only two hundred more and you can graduate from primary school, that is those of you that still have those one room school houses.

Your replies are speaking about many things but ignore the issue for which your were admonished. Read both of the posts to you by Admin Mod on the thread, and only reply about them.

...are you trying to reinsert the issue that the Admin Moderator said was a disgusting issue?!

Do NOT alter what we posted for your own purposes.

YOU were the offender here. What was disgusting was posted by you.

You receive an “aw crap”, you lose 5 gold stars, go to the back of the line and spend one more year in primary school.

I went back to read the posts and I don’t disagree with them, if that’s what is thought. That should make it clear.

The other issues are just that ... other issues ... and they didn’t bear on the previous post. It was convenient to bring up, as other issues, since you were there at the time.

Gold stars? ... you got me there ... it’s the first time I’ve heard them mentioned on Free Republic. Are you sure it’s not some kind of secret rite you’re involved in? ... LOL ...

He didn’t get elected because of me and my vote, that’s for sure!. I refused to vote for him both times! But the fact that I didn’t vote for Obama doesn’t bear on the issue of me buying an iPhone, iPad or iMac. I haven’t gotten to the Apple Watch yet ... :-) ...

Also, I think you’ll find that the other 700 FReepers on the Apple Ping List didn’t vote for Obama either. That’s my guess, but I’m sure if you polled them, you would find it to be true. Not voting for Obama doesn’t stop them, either, from getting and using their Apple products.

Outside of Free Republic, I also know conservatives who have Apple products. You won’t find a correlation between an individual buying Apple products, and then supporting Obama or supporting the gay agenda.

Oh yeah. I’m probably going to get an iPhone again when my 2 years is up in August. I have an HTC One right now and although it is a decent phone, it’s just not as stable as the iPhone I had before the One. There are just too many bugs and junk I have to keep dealig with, that I don’t want to.

Whatever one is “free” with a 2 year contract is what I’ll get. 6, 7 whatever! I know it will be an improvment either way!

You Fanbois just don't see what a joke this new wonderthing from Apple is ... and you don't see that I have no interest in owning one .. not now , maybe in 5 years when it morphs into something useful .. that's my yardstick... not making others jealous with a chrome apple logo proudly shining through a special cutout on a phone case... I have owned iPhones up to a "4" ,, then switched to better tech as it became available... I also stopped buying iPods when they forced me to use iTunes ,, I have an extensive collection on vinyl, threw away a LOT of casettes , and now I have cd's ,, I spent plenty of time ripping cd's to my 'puter and now apple wants to force me to buy ANOTHER copy of Blonde on Blonde? just so it comes through their fingers... F'Em!

You guys are too funny and so easy to get riled up .... like a Ford driving redneck getting mad when they see a Chevy truck with a sticker like this...

You guys need to grow up ,, not everything apple is great,, surely you can see you're just like the high schoolers looking for attention and envy from those of us that JUST DON'T CARE about your unhealthy obsession with being "cool".

in the interest of disclosure, I use a 20 year old Mac every day, along with the stuff I *have* to use at work, but BTW, I have no interest in owning a so-called smart phone (possibly in the same way I used to have no interest in owning a cell phone), and the Apple Watch appears to me to be a solution in search of a problem, appealing to the Koolaid drinkers. The incoherent, inchoate animus directed to Apple -- allegedly for reasons that apply at least as strongly to all other brands -- remains both distasteful and a puzzle. big glass of reality: Samsung circling the drain: haters gonna hate: this was the most intriguing announcment in the recent big reveal from Apple (when I work, I work in health care): and here's some good news for all you LINOs (Libertarians in Name Only) out there: and bravo!
