I thought the whole idea of researching your ancestry was to find the truth.. good or bad. I will give a huge kudos to Anne Heche. I don’t agree with her politics or when she was with Ellen but I will say she had some courage when dealing with her hidden ancestry. Long story short.. a great, great Granny of sorts murdered her husband with a hatchet to his face. She went to prison, was raped and impregnated by the warden, and the warden’s wife tried to murder her and the baby. A very sordid and sad story.. but she not only divulged it but wanted to know everything. I remember her saying, “family holiday dinners are going to get a lot more lively now”.
Do not hold children responsible for the sins of their parents.
The sins of people five or more generations back certainly don’t apply.
If it did, everyone in the world is guilty because nearly every society had slavery - including Africans and Native Americans.
One of my g’g’g’g’ grandfathers owned fifteen slaves.
Oddly enough, I don’t feel a sense of guilt or debt - mild interest, yes.
And regret that Americans participated in the slave trade and economy at all.
To my knowledge, Ben Affleck has never owned slaves.
It is not a sin that I cast at his feet.
OTOH, his blistering stupidity as a leftist more than justifies the disdain I have for him.
The ironic part of this is that had he not suppressed the story few people would have known. Now many more people know. Add in that now he looks like even more if a a-hole than he normally does. I think pretentious twit is a good descriptor.
It actually says more about the PBS show that they went along with it.
I saw that one, too. Anne was pretty cool about. It says a lot about Ben that he wasn’t.
