Glen Campbell Doesn’t Realize He’s Never Going Home Again
New York Post ^ | 5/1 | Andrea Peyser

Posted on 05/01/2015 3:20:39 PM PDT by nickcarraway

With his “aw shucks, ma’am” charm and velvety voice, Glen Campbell was a legendary country and pop-music singer, guitarist and Hollywood hot guy. But now, friends and relatives tell me, he languishes in a “mediocre” facility outside Nashville, Tenn., for patients afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease.

He can spend only minimal time with his oldest children, say sources, who claim he is frequently alone except for the company of caregivers and TV crews recording his mental decline.

He wants to go home, they say, and doesn’t understand that the facility is his residence, probably for the rest of his life.

Doesn’t his family have any say?

I see Kirk Gibson was diagnosed with Parkinsons disease the other day.

He and Jack Morris were just picked up by FOX for on air work during Tiger games.

Why is his facility “mediocre”? Surely there are fine facilities in Nashville. Are his children withholding money?

My mother was neither famous, nor wealthy, and she spent her last days in an assisted living facility that could be compared to a palace with round the clock caregivers and entertainments. There was a whole wing dedicated to the Alztheimer’s patients. Although I never was in that part of the facility, I’m sure that it was just as nice.

Bummer. My FIL had Alzheimer’s and was bedridden for a decade. Not pleasant. My MIL refused to put him in a home and waited on him hand and foot till he passed. Very hard for her and the whole family.

How’s Jack doing?

He helped the Twinkies kick some series butt.

Im not going to try to say whats best in Glenn’s case since I don’t know it.
But often alzeimer’s patients react very positively to visiting their homes

According to the article, there is a battle going on between Campbell's current wife, and his children from a previous marriage, over access to Campbell and his care. It sounds similar to the situation that existed with the family of Casey Kasem.

Why don’t family care for him....then he would be home

I would think they could afford the 100g a year care like that costs

And before the nasties retort

I do take care of someone....my wife and I

Along with 3-5 kids depending

And we have before

I spent 4-6 hours an evening at my mothers as she died of Uncle Charlie

Every night but one when I had a fever

Several close friends did the daytime and I did weekends too

And we had staff and later hospice

Meanwhile we had 4 of 5 kids at home including an infant

It’s what u do

The rise of nursing homes accompanies abortion and illegitimacy

Not a coincidence

Yes....there are exceptions

Kirk is bald and Jack is a white hair.

The way the article reads, it sounds like Casey Kasem, Part Deux.....

My aunt had ALZ and died only a few months ago. She was not bedridden though but any person like me who took turns taking care of her in our family know that it’s an emotional hell. We considered a professional home for her but rather pay for additional caregivers during evenings.

Look how much bigger Morris’ hands/fingers are. That’s not just a difference in perspective.

For some reason I’m reminded of Bubba Ho-Tep (the movie not the FReeper).

My condolences to Mr. Campbell

I think you are confusing Bruce Campbell and Glen Campbell.

I was 34 when my mom passed away from Alzheimer’s. In digging back up this period in my life I’d like everyone who has not delt with or been close to dimentia, this watching your hero die and die again over and over to STFU.
