Warrior's Curry to be named NBA MVP

OAKLAND -- Adding one more piece to a dream season for the franchise, Warriors guard Stephen Curry will be named NBA Most Valuable Player on Monday, this newspaper confirmed.

Curry was informed of the news by his parents over dinner after the Warriors' Game 1 Western Conference semifinals win over Memphis on Sunday.

Curry is the Warriors' first MVP since the team moved from Philadelphia more than a half-century ago and the first for the franchise since Wilt Chamberlain in 1960.

Asked Sunday about the possibility of winning the award, Curry said he was mostly focused on the Warriors' playoff run.

"Obviously I know what the situation is, and just trying to focus on the game, and if I get a call tomorrow, I'll definitely be happy," Curry said after the game. "And there will be a lot of people that can be proud of that moment, as well, and we'll enjoy it.

"But right now I'm happy we won Game 1. I'll wake up tomorrow a fresh new day, and we'll see what happens."

Curry, 27, averaged 23.8 points, 7.7 assists, and 2 steals a game and shot 44.3 percent from 3-point distance--all in the league's top 10. He also was the central focus of a Warriors team that recorded the best record in the league, at 67-15, and recorded a point-differential of +10.1, one of the eight best in NBA history.

GSWarrior is happy. It will never be this good for Warriors.

BTW, the Warriors also lead the NBA in fewest tattoos.

I think the Warriors are now the favorite to win the NBA title—especially now that the Cavaliers have lost Kevin Love for the season.

I hope they present it to him today, right before the series opener with the Rockets, and "the Beard".

This will be a repeat of when Robinson got the MVP in Olajuwon's house ....

Warriors have too many weapons and a shutdown defense. I don’t see any other team beating them in a 7 game series.

They announced this on ESPN after the game, though I switched to baseball after the first quarter.

I disagree. If the Cavaliers had Kevin Love, they would have been a defensive nightmare for the Warriors to deal with, since the Cavaliers’ better defensive players could specifically key in on both Curry and Klay Thompson, essentially shutting down the best parts of the Warriors’ offense.

No one has the depth of the Warriors. Their second unit would be a top 4 seed in the eastern conference, I bet.

That jerk Olynyk got suspended for one game. One. Too little, imo.

There is no thug mentality on the Warriors, either. That’s one reason they are so fun to watch.

Drafting the offspring of ex NBA stars has been good for the Warriors. They also have James Michael McAdoo, cousin of Bob McAdoo, on the bench.

Should’ve been for the first 10 games of next season. He clamped down on Love’s arm. Looked intentional.
