Are art museums welcoming enough to minorities? While it’s probably a question that never occurred to you since, if you are so inclined, you simply pay the admission and enter, it it apparently a pressing issue to some people.
One of those people to whom this though has occurred is first lady Michelle Obama.
At the opening of the new $420 million Whitney Museum in New York City, the first lady spoke of a “feeling of not belonging” in museums when she was a growing up on the south side of Chicago.

You keep seeing this theme of blacks feeling excluded from “white” culture,
when the fact is, it’s WESTERN Culture, based on Christianity, that they
ACTIVELY REJECT.
Now, I can try to have a little understanding of them wanting to seek a venue or establish institutions based on the [anti]culture they’ve developed,
but really, what would such an institution based on those cultural values look like?

So, there’s no value in catering to that culture.
It’s actually dangerous and destructive, even to its adherents,

Hmmmm....I was looking at a picture of the Lincoln memorial I took years ago just last night...and wondered...when will it be destroyed? That’s.not something I would have thought of years ago...Destroying Western civilization is the goal...
Sounds like she’s saying museums should be free (and have workshops) for non-whites.
If I was serious about going to a museum, then I'd make it MY BUSINESS to know what it's about.
Taxpayers and others FUND the museum and it is the property of the taxpayer, etc.
Paying taxes as I do, I feel VERY comfortable there... I go and visit MY Rembrandt's occasionally :)
Maybe a museum about sneakers would attract them. Or bling. or rap. or baby daddies. or baby mommies. or booty calls. or knockout “game”. or crack. or other icons of minority culture.
Truff: they don’t like museums because they can’t appreciate the culture of a civilized country.

So of course they’d feel uncomfortable in a museum.

Pack school lunch for your child because the school lunch is so nasty? You are depriving the poor children in the school of much needed school lunch funds and not contributing to social justice in your community.

For 25 years I’ve been sending kids to the ballet. They get inspired and love it!
To the point, they feel compelled to write the wonderful letters, describing their experience, to the many people who are so mind to have donated.
Not once did they bring up race.
No, they were inspired.
Little girls imagine themselves as ballerinas or characters.
Little boys understand the athleticism of the male dancers.
I’ve seen children of all stripes in various museums around the world, enthralled by portraits and sculptures, antiquities and the buildings they are housed in.
Kids visit museums and are just plain fascinated.
Michelle visits a museum and see herself, somehow, as not belonging? Really?

Not too long ago a Black Congresswoman argued that C-SPAN should stop playing Classical Music during pauses in coverage (like Congressional breaks) because “No one likes that $hit!”.

When somebody tries to “high-five” me, I ask them who the very worst people in our country are.
The answer? Gang-bangers from the ghetto. Where did the “high-five” come from? Same answer: ghetto criminal scum.
The high-five just makes me think of an old woman, robbed of her Social Security check, raped, strangled, and left to go cold in a ghetto alley.
I will not participate in *anything* those savages spawn, be it music, shuckin’ and jivin’, new slang, fashions in clothing, you name it. If it came from them, it should be poured right back on their heads and the whole mess flushed down the sewer.
