NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -
A van struck an alligator on I-10 East, police say, triggering an accident that left one man dead.
The accident happened just after 4 a.m. Friday on I-10 East near Michoud Boulevard.
Officers believe that a van was traveling eastbound in the center lane of the highway when the driver struck a 5-foot alligator on the road. The van came to a complete stop after hitting the alligator and was rear-ended by a second vehicle, New Orleans police say.
The driver of the second vehicle, identified only as a Mississippi man, was killed in the accident.
Two individuals, the driver of the van and a passenger in the second car, were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Sara Bonilla is the daughter of the driver who hit the gator.

Oh Man he’s a car shaker not a tree shaker
Did they call the GatorAid car?
Sounds like the driver who hit the gator decided to stop in the traffic lane.
Probably wanted to pick up dinner.
“Probably wanted to pick up dinner.”
Or thought he’d just ran over somebody.
Get out of traffic lanes if you can.

They are tough critters.
probably had no insurance either. Friggin alligator
Best neighbors I have.

I smell a wrongful death lawsuit. Stopping in the middle lane of an expressway at night, and it sounds like he failed to turn his four way flashers on. That sounds like lawyer bait.
It is also dangerous to run into a deer.

Its worse than a bad idea. He didn't even hit the gator bad enough to kill it outright so, the vehicle had to be operable. Some people shouldn't drive.
Alligators.....Nature’s speed bumps.
The gator was wrapped up in the rear wheels of the van. I-10 is 3 lanes wide plus two drivable shoulders, so the driver of the car was probably driving too fast and not paying attention. Drivers in that stretch of road at that time of the night will often drive at 85+ mph.
lol the alligator looks mostly intact to me
I don't. ;)

Probably more gators than pedestrians long about there. Could have damaged the van so badly that it was undrivable.
That one is funny. I remember when it was going around in the early 90’s via cassette. I still laugh every time I hear it.
