They had him talk to a trooper who was a family friend and himself went to prison for pedophilia. That’s not dealing with it.

IMHO, the Duggars should cancel their own show and not wait for TLC.

I suspect the money from the show + all the free products they get from advertisers/sponsors goes a long way toward allowing them to provide for so many kids.

Reading comprehension problem? I said “STARTING” at age 6 and continuing for years. Why are you defending her actions? She wrote about all of it in her book, freely admitting it. All the quotes are online, do your homework.

How many "years"? Because I've been searching, and the only incident I've seen from her book was the one I referred to earlier, when she was seven. I'm not "defending" her, I'm saying that at seven (or six, or eight), it is not "abuse," and does not even begin to compare to what Duggar did at 14 (which, as I noted above, is miles apart in terms of development, hormones, etc.)

There's no excusing what the eldest son did (molestation/incest), but the Duggars repress their children. No front hugs, holding hands, kissing. And those awful prairie skirts and worse hairdos the females are required to wear. Teenage males pretty much think of little else but the opposite sex; the testosterone storm is high & raging. What is forbidden is wanted more. Would've been better for “Jim Bob” to take the males, as they began/begin to rut, to a whorehouse and remove the mystery of it all. Or for Pete's sake, let ‘em date girls their age...a little huggin’ & kissin’ isn't going to destroy anyone.

In her newly published collection of personal essays, Not That Kind of Girl, Lena Dunham describes experimenting sexually with her younger sister Grace, whom she says she attempted to persuade to kiss her using “anything a sexual predator might do.” In one particularly unsettling passage, Dunham experimented with her six-year younger sister’s vagina. “This was within the spectrum of things I did,” she writes.
In the collection of nonfiction personal accounts, Dunham describes using her little sister at times essentially as a sexual outlet, bribing her to kiss her for prolonged periods and even masturbating while she is in the bed beside her.

I found this on a site called truthrevolt.org. I did not read her book. From this description, I don’t care what age she was, she was abusing her baby sister. Defend it all you want but in my opinion, it was abuse.

Lena also details masturbating in bed while laying next to her sister. Lena was 17 sister was 11.

Strange behavior and NOT normal.

Which causes me to wonder when his abnormal behavior began. Likely not at 14, likely much sooner...

Honestly, hecticskeptic, would you as manager of a business put a convicted embezzler in charge of your books?

Here’s the problem…. God hates sin and I don’t believe that it is scriptural to suggest that one type of sin is ‘more important’ or ‘worse’ than another. Romans 5:12 says this….. “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” There are no ‘degrees’ of sin expressed in this verse. The act of sin brought about death…. and incidentally, it brought it about for all mankind since no one other than Christ himself has ever lived a sinless life. Psalm 51:5 “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” By the same token, forgiveness includes all sin from what we would refer to as the least to the greatest. 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness.”

I am not saying that there is not a problem with this Duggar case… there clearly is. Earlier I quoted James 5:16 which admonishes the Christians to “confess your faults one to another”….did that happen with Josh Duggar? Or was it simply a case of “some found out and then decided to cover this up”. Frankly, I think a true Christian would be willing to volunteer the information about their past at the appropriate times and if asked to take on a position, he/she would probably be wise to decline it and ask for a different role.

Back to your original question…. Yes, I absolutely would put a convicted embezzler in charge of my company’s books. Now here’s the caveat….If I was absolutely convinced of genuineness of his/her repentance and conversions to Jesus Christ, I would be more trusting of that convicted embezzler than I would be in any person who up to that point in his/her life had lived a life that looked absolutely full of integrity (as commonly defined) but had declared that they had no interest in Jesus Christ. Why not? If God forgave them and I believed that it was a genuine conversion, on what grounds would I make a decision of not accepting them for who they are when God has already made a different choice? On what grounds is it better to be on a different path that God’s?

Doesn’t Josh have daughters? Any chance he might be molesting them?

It's OK, his wife says she knows about his past and she's totally cool with it.

Yikes.

Just wondering .... What WOULD be the proper steps to take if one found his or her son, or daughter, molesting others at this age?

Would you literally call the police on your kid? Just wondering. Seems like a horribly difficult situation to begin with.

The degree of damage the child suffered is that her older brother crept into her room repeatedly in the dead of night and violated her, that her parents knew about it, let it happen again, and made her live in the same house as the predator.
The people whose main job in life was to protect her and keep her safe repeatedly betrayed her and then hypocritically drilled into her how important it was for her to maintain purity.

You said it so chillingly well. I’m horrified at FReepers defending this predatory pedophile and his parents who put their fame above their daughters’ safety.

This is a heart wrenching question. First, whom do you focus on as a parent? Your teen who is molesting, or the victims? Just using logic, it HAS to be the victims. So besides getting them some serious therapy, they need to be made safe from the perp. Where will he live? Maybe with a grandparent? And when the little girls are taken for sensitive therapy (not from a cultish friend of the family who is himself a sexual predator), the therapist by law has to call the police.

So it’s out of the parents’ hands.

Parents, tell your pre teen boys (and girls) how serious child molestation is. It’s almost as bad as murder. Tell them to make sure never to be in a situation where anyone could even THINK they might have done such a thing. If they are just 14 and molest their little sisters, their life as they know it and their potential might be OVER. It’s a fact.

“...If you don’t want people to find out that you are raising a predator...”

I don’t think they’ve denied anything - but that doesn’t mean they owe us a two-hour special devoted to the issue. How much schadenfreude is enough? Or since they are a religious family, do we get to kick them around extra?

They can't deny anything because the police have already conducted an investigation. They have done their best to conceal everything, including conspiring to prevent their son from facing prosecution.

They belong in prison for what they did.

And spare me the Schadefreude nonsense. This is a gutcheck moment: either do the right thing and demand justice for abused children, or go leftist and whinge about a political wichhunt.

I would not.

If you want to see a church die, put a former child molester in charge of your children’s program.
