I once went to one of Stallman's talks, at first he stuck to his "free as in speech not as in beer" vocation, but then quickly devoved into to the typical Bush and Conservative bashing fair that is the unfortunate cornerstone of mainstream scientific and technical society.

Another year I went to a Java conference, where virtually every keynote speaker gushed about RFK Jr's global warming speech he gave at an unrelated event in the same city earlier in the week.

And in both cases my complaints about brining unrelated political matters into these venues were dismissed with hostility.

They got to be mad at SOMETHING. They can’t just construct things, no that is too wimpy.

Hmmm, you’d think the requirement being technically adept would screen out the fools, at least percentage-wise. I’m technically adept and not a fool.
